Help Identify an old Blackhawk jack

Hello all..

New to the board, found the site while trying to find info on a jack I just picked up.

This is an old Blackhawk jack, but it is different than the ones I see in pics online. Most have some sort of design or logo on the side, but this has raise letters that states "Blackhawk". Looks to be possibly a 4 ton model..


Can anyone supply any info on the model and maybe even pis of what it looked like when new?

Picked this up for my brother who wanted a vintage, USA made floor jack... It works great, but thought it would be nice to grab some parts for him to rebuild.

Looks like it is missing a top plate with the blackhawk logo possibly?

I need to get better pics, but had a time limit as I had to get my car to the Progressive shop.

Will try and get better ones tomorrow.

Cool to know thats a light on the jack! There is what looks to be a service plate on the cap of the cylinder so that may answer all my questions. It does have the key lock on the handle which I thought was very odd.

What has me wondering is if this is a newer S4 or just a different option with the name on the side rather than the logo.

Here's my guess.

A wider picture would help but it appears to be an older model S4 because the lifting arm is straight, as opposed to the image posted by 930 dreamer. You can see the lifting arm in that pic is curved, placing that jack circa 1950's.

Phew!!! That jack is rough.... I've spent a lot of my lifetime dealing with Old Us steel and its unbelievable what you guys can find. My gut tells me that thing is roached inside, I cannot recommend buying a seal kit prior to tearing that thing down. While the Vintage Blackhawk jacks are very cool to look at, they are some of your more difficult jacks to rebuild, and do require some Oem specialty tools to service properly, On top of that... Hard parts are gonna be almost non existent from a New/Good used standpoint, so anything needing replaced will either have to be Made or cabbaged from a donor jack.

According to CRTDI in the following post, this is one of the original design S4 jacks from the 20's/30's..... Hmmmmmm...

I submitted another reply, but looks like it has to be approved by a moderator. Weird.

Anyhow. It still works good, and yes it is rough, but some sand blasting and paint, she'll be good as new. The adjusting knob works, it will lift and retract...



Found it on CL... Looking for older US made jacks. Couldn't resist picking it up... It doesn't leak from what I can see, just would like to put some new seals in..

@Semi - Yes, the support bars are straight. I'll get over there tomorrow to get more pics and see what else I can find for info.

ID plate states S4, but with a headlight, it may not be original...

On the top jack handle there is a number that looks like: S4-145

On handle base that attaches to the main body, there is a number: S4-133
