Help Identify and fix Wilton vice

So I have what I think is a Wilton Machinist vice and the stationary jaw has a number 111073 stamped on it and the moving jaw has 111074 with a #2 directly above the 7

Not sure if this helps identify it, but the Spindle and Handle Assembly no longer stay connected to the front jaw as there looks like the 2 rivets broke off that were keeping it from separating from the front jaw.

Can these be fixed/replaced?

Regards, Chet

Please post a few pictures to get specific suggestions!

Technically, the machinist vises are the bullet style. Ones with the square slide are called mechanics vises and are built to a looser tolerance. All of those have a heavy horseshoe shaped washer held onto the front of the dynamic jaw with three machine screws. That horse collar shaped washer fits into a groove in the main threaded spindle. That's what holds it together and permits cranking the jaws open with the handle.

Yes, you can get parts.
Check out the vise thread on GJ. for better exposure to get answers.

If you have a model 746, you don't have a horse collar piece in front right?
On that model, there is a little clip held onto the dynamic jaw with one screw on the underside of the spindle. If that is missing the dynamic jaw won't move as you crank the handle counter clockwise to try to open the vise. The clip rides in the groove of the main screw.
Is that the issue?

Yes I think you guys nailed it. It does not have a U-shaped horse collar washer, but rather a round washer and the clip + screw are missing. Looks like I need Part 21500-02 to (retainer and screw) . Really hope that's all it needs as it's in nice shape and I almost sold it for scrap! What are Wilton's warranty parts policies, If I call them will they send me a replacement part or is this not covered?

Checked with Wilton, part is no longer covered under 90 day warranty (I thought Wilton's were life-time?) , but the retainer clip and screw only cost $4.00 and change. Totally worth it if if it gets this lump back on my bench again!

I'm starting to think the 746 I have is an older one that should have a U-shaped horse collar washer to hold the spindle from coming out. The side is clearly stamped 746, but there is no groove or slot to put the retainer on the bottom of the dynamic front jaw.

Does anyone have an older 746 model with the round spindle plate that has 2 slots for pins/rivits?

I don't have the rivets so I guess I will nee to come up with another solution because Wilton does not list them for the older 746 model. Hopefully someone has done this repair before.

They're standard things. You don't need to order them from Wilton. If the holes aren't threaded, just run a tap down them and use screws. Twist rivets are a pain in the **** at the best of times, so better to use screws.

Thanks for the great input Fretters, I now feel confident I can get this old girl working again. So do I need to just run a tap through the holes/slots on the retainer plate or do I also need to drill/tap into the front jaw and either way what keeps the screws from backing out (lock washers, tension) and what type of screws should I use (sheet metal, machine)? Thanks in advance.

Older thread but was wondering if anyone has a source for some of the parts of a 746? It is a 1980 one and I need the 2 screws that hold the large washer/threaded handle spindle on...

You mean where pins go through on the back of the vise?
