Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this blackhawk floor jack that I inherited after my grandfathers passing. I would love to restore it in his honor. The ID tag is missing. Any help/tips on finding parts/restoring would be greatly appreciated.

First model S-4 and a very early version at that. Good luck with your restoration it will be a great jack when it is done.

Thanks for the comments guys. I found an S4 on some of the parts, but have not seen a picture of one similar to mine. Most of them have the light on it like 930dreamer mentioned. Is there anywhere I can send the hydraulic unit to get it rebuilt? Goes up half way but won't lift any weight. I should be able to do the rest on the restoration by myself, I think everything is still there.

So the S-4 came without a light? Cool find.

Early ones came without a light

Thanks scott37300! Is this rebuild something I can do myself? Or is it pretty tricky? I would like it done right the first time and not have to worry about it! Does Hiball rebuild these things?

I don't know how tricky a complete rebuild is, I still need to order a kit for mine. I have rebuilt air tools before and it's really not that hard so I'm assuming the jack rebuild won't be anything to difficult. There was another member on here that bought the same jack I did and was going to do a write up on rebuilding it. Here is my jack thread, http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110990&highlight=blackhawk.

I think Hiball rebuilds jacks as a side business so I'm pretty sure he could rebuild it for you but after shipping it back and forth and his labor and almost a hundred dollars for the rebuild kit it will start to add up pretty quick. Maybe send him a message asking what he thinks your best option would be. He knows his jacks and has posted some very helpful advice on the forum.

Nice jacks oldjacks!

Great pic oldjacks! That one is pretty close to the one I have. What year do you think mine was made?

They started making S-4 jack in 1932. Don't know how many years they continued to make it before they changed over to the one with the headlight.

There are a few GJ members here with S-4 jacks. The later model with the headlight is the more common version. Use the search feature for blackhawk jack, it will produce a lot of info for you.

Here is one member with an S-4 that has given a lot of detailed info and has even posted the operational instructions and parts list for his particular version in post #6. Some of this info may be helpful for you.
