I won this off eBay the other day and its even more awsome in person, but I dont know who made it? It looks Chas Parker like. The only markings are the "NO.3" on it. None the less its my new favorite vise of my collection  I also picked this other little one up as well.

I second the idea of the vise marked no.3 looking like a athol. A picture of the front end of a athol vise notice they both share the same hump around the knob on the lead screw.

The number 3 vise looks like a Prentiss. Has the eyebrow over the handle. Could be a salesman sample or jeweler's vise. There are some Prentiss experts here that will know more than me.

I thought that too. It looks like there was at one time something written on the other side, but its way too worn off. You think it was an actual vise or maybe a demo to show somebody who wanted to buy one? It looks like it had a swivel base at one time in its life also.

I won it with a $61.00 bid. I already had it in my mind I was gonna get it. Im like a lot of vise guys here.... SERIOUS ISSUES lol. It was worth it once I had it in my hands so my addiction is happy now.

Well after standing in this Texas sun and looking at the writing remains... I'm about 99% sure it says ATHOL. I can make out the "A" and "H" in the five letter word. This is very cool. Now do you think it was a sample? or the real deal? Thanks guys!

I would guess it was a little machinist vise because I have seen little starrett vises before and starrett bought athol so it would make sense to me at least.

What ***** is that you can see the little wear marks where either a small nut or handle was for a swivel base... I wish I knew if it was a base you fastened to the bench or was it a table clamp base? Maybe we'll never know... But I'm glad I figured out its an Athol at least. Thanks for all the help guys.

No problem with the money - - - you wanted it, you got it!! I've done same thing with eSnipe where I just kept bumping up max bid, and sometimes the ending HIGH bid actually happens!!

Love to see that vise fully restored. It would be great paperweight and holder of objects on your desk, even if never bolted down. I LIKE it !!

Keep this thread going . . . and pics along the way.

CNGsaves- will do! Shouldnt be too much elbow grease with this little vise lol. It actually has some old black paint on it. What you think about returning it back to those specs??

J HAV, I'm certainly not an expert on identifying the makers of old vises, but I DO know a cute one when I see it! "Cute" isn't an adjective you hear applied to a vise very often, but your new little #3 is about as cute as they come! I wish I'd seen the auction, I'd have taken it much higher than what you ended-up getting it for. As far as I'm concerned....YOU ****!!!

Hahahaha! Thanks! Yea, my max bid was set at $100. I was willing to go higher. Thankfully it stopped at $61. Should clean up nice. With this Texas heat a new paint job on it should dry in 2 minutes. Hope to have a restored pic soon.
