Hi All,

I really hope somebody can help me identify the lower cabinet of a vinatage SnapOn box I recently acquired. It's in beautiful shape- it may have been restored at some point, but if so, the person who did the paint job was very skilled.

The top box has stamped numbers of KR-59, and 3882 below that.

I can't find any numbers on the bottom box. Any ideas? Also, any way to tell when this was manufactured? I've looked all over and there aren't any numbers there, or they have been painted over. Where would I look for them typically?

Thanks!

Most of the time they are on the back, but sometimes the side, or the front edge

Congrats on finding one of the classic style top-and-bottom sets. I've got a very similar pair and the model number is stamped into the metal in the top right corner facing the back of the box.

The size is perfect for the average home shop guy and I personally prefer that look over the later versions.

Thanks everybody, I appreciate the help.

smschriefer, I think you might be right on the model. Google returns a couple images of an identical looking lower, but with a newer name badge than I have.

I can easily find the stamped number on the top, but didn't see one on the bottom box. The only reason I think it might be restored is that the paint on the back of the box looks slightly different and duller than the rest of the box. That said, the drawers, etc. all look that clean and shiny, so either somebody completely disassmbled it and repainted or has just kept it polished up. It sat up against a block wall for decades, so maybe that's a reason for the back to be a bit more worn.

Jack- I can't find a stamped number on the back, and the paint doesn't look so thick that it would have been covered up... hmm- I'll have to dig more. Thanks for the info on where to look. Maybe a brighter light shined across the surface will help, but I didn't know where to even start looking.

I'm super excited to have this box, and most of it is filled with various SnapOn wrenches/sockets, some old Blackhawk, Proto, and a few other misc. brands. As an added bonus, it has some sentimental value in a very roundabout way in that it belonged to my wife's grandpa's life long best friend. It is part of his complete metal shop that I recently purchased after he passed away.
