It's handy for small repairs on appliances(but most fasteners are the Torx style now). I've got two sets, and very useful for regular nuts and bolts.

Hey guys, maybe I mis-worded the first post. I know well what it is. I had the Xcelite ones before. ..

I'm actually looking for the name and part number and year so I can eBay it...

Closest I found is in the 1981 craftsman catalog under stock number 45113 for the kit. Picture is too poor to see number on large handle. It's the oldest catalog I have that shows the R1 and R2 bits, and it sold for 5.99. Hope that helps

Alfawrench, Thank you very much! I googled that and got nothing. Would you be kind enough to tell me what the item is called? Once again, thank you.

Quoting the product description from 1981:
"10-pc Tool Set with square recess screwdrivers for recreational vehicle repair."
"CONSTR: Blades hardened and tempered steel, Plastic handles."
9KT45114-Wt. 11oz. $5.99

Another version, 9KT45113 had half nut drivers, no clutch or robinson for the same money. This kit was 45111 in 1976.

Further states imported, but, 1976 and older catalogs don't say imported. Also no robinson/clutch bits. In those days, if COO or imported was NOT stated, it was a guarantee it was made in USA. I dont have 1977 to 1980 catalogs, and I suspect that is the time period of your set. The pouch and tray match the poor black and white drawing, and the metal snap on your pouch and the =V= embossed on the handle fit the time period. Color photo in the 1982 catalog looks like the snap could be white plastic. Hard to tell. Big price jump too, to $6.99.

Collectable? Maybe, especially to those who go nuts over =V= period stuff. I purchased the bulk of my tools in th 1970's and 80's. Uncommon to rare, especially in the condition of your kit. To me, kits like this were the like the kits from the discount stores, so, I never bought one. The 45111 kit was described as suitable for electronics repair. Not durable enough for my purposes at the time, but, that's just my opinion. Must have been halfway decent. They stayed in the catalogs for years.

Good luck selling

Alfawrench, Thanks man. I appreciate you taking the time to do that.

I just sold the Xcelite kit on ebay for $20, so I figured if I could do the same with this, a collector gets what he wants and I make a few bucks to buy more tools. WIN WIN!:thumbup:

Glad to help. I saved most of my catalogs over the years as inventory lists and to drool over, so it was a fun trip down memory lane

Not too common to find in Craftsman. Looks nice and complete.
My first tool set as a child was the same thing but some cheap version. It came in a storage box shaped like a mini tool chest. Had lots of fun with that.

Dave,

Thank you. Now to change the subjuct, how do you like your Craftsman bench vise that's in the photo? I'm looking at a similar one on ebay, with the hope they were really better than the later models. It took me years, but I finally suceeded in totaly destroying my undersized made in japan craftsman. I knew using a cheater bar would be bad, but the task at hand required it. Yes, it can be a punch press, one time. I expected to find parts at parts direct, but, no more. Oh well. It was always too small anyway.

Alfa,

I just picked it up the other night. I was going to clean her up and sell off to a good home, but I got many irons in the fire now. I spent $20 on it plus about $7 fuel. So, if you want it, $27 plus the ride and it is yours. I'll check, but I think it will fit in a flat rate box.

It has 4" jaws and has Model 5169 on it, but I've seen this same one with 2 or 3 model #s...i think...

Hey nine4, sorry bro. Deal is done and he has it now. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

It's all good, I certainly don't need it, I just see and want! I actually have vises running out my ears but I am looking for a Crown Top vise that style preferably. Do let me know if you find one though, thanks!

WOW! I had a set like that when I was little (maybe 7-8 years old? during mid to late 80's) and COMPELTEY forgot about it! That photo really jogged my memory. Makes me wonder what happened to it. I might have to try and find any remnants of that set at my folk's house next time I visit. The set I had was identical except it had only Phillips and slotted screwdrivers on the front and all nut drivers on the back if I recall correctly.
