Hey y'all. I've been lurking on here for a bit trying to ID a Wilton vise my mother in law has in her garage that she is giving me, can anyone tell me what model it is? She lives 12 hours away and this the only picture I got of it and I don't want to bother her over and over about it. Thanks!

Looks like a Wilton 400S with 4 x 1-1/4 x 5/8 jaws in excellent shape. It will last you a live time. If the stationary (Static Jaw Support) says 101157 on the side then that is a later model 400S.

Awesome, that's what I was hoping to hear. It looks different then the ones I've seen online but it most likely is a later model

It's definitely a later model. The "Wilton" lettering is blockier/flatter and the pins for the nut are at least an inch (roughly) forward of the back of the casting. The older style had the pins less than 1/2" from the back of the casting. That puts it as 1998 or newer according to Wilton's diagrams.

I don't recall what year the move from Schiller Park was, but the newer vises say Made in USA rather than Schiller Park, so that's another clue.

Here's a newer 500 with the more blocky/flatter lettering and the pins forward with the larger dust cover.

Older 500 with the more raised letters, and pins near the back of the body.

Nice! I figured it wasn't going to be anything older then the 80s at the most. I'll know the exact when I get my hands on it

Funny thing...the newer 500 in those pics didn't have a date stamped on the key....weird. The guy I got it from said his son bought it five or six years ago from a local tool supply place, but there's no way of knowing how long it sat on the shelf. I was like "seriously, no date" when I took the slide out :dunno:

Interesting, I'll see if there's a date stamp when I get it
