Hi,

Hope everyone's week is going well so far. Recently, I bought a box of random vintage sockets. There were some Proto, Indestro, Wizard and this one oddball.View media item 73413The only thing I can come up, after searching Google, is it's possibly an Indian company? It has no made in US stamping on it and is fairly crude. The logo S.R. doesn't ring any bells with me. It appears vintage and is rather heavy. It's a 12 tooth, 11/16, 1/2 inch drive.

Any ideas would be much appreciated! I will put it to use either way. Just curious as to the origin. Thank in advance!

The best working theory that I've read is that these tools were made by Plomb for contract. The sockets and other [S.R.] marked drive tools resemble the Plomb made W.F. contract tools.

Sturm Ruger

Awesome thanks for the help! This one had me stumped. The first time I've run into one.

I actually found a second one in the box. Another 11/16 so I guess I have two of them. They're not the best cast sockets. They're kind of crude. Heavy with a thick wall.

The finish on those looks identical to the Craftsman circle-U breaker bar and socket I have, made by Plomb.

That's pretty much the consensus, Dave, but it's always good to get fresh independent eyes on it for confirmation. A guy on GG even mic'd a few and they were either spot on or well within negligible difference range in dimensions. Twertsy and I did some research to try to identify companies in the late 40s with those initials that they might've been made for with no definitive conclusions. The best of the possibles, in my opinion, is Sinclair Refinery, the oil company, which was a very large outfit in its time, but I am not sold on that by any means. Almost total conjecture.

Yes and I can do another if someone have some plomb WF sockets to get dimensions off of.
