Hope this is the correct place to ask but I have the chance to purchase the equipment in the pictures close to me and at what I believe to be a reasonable price was wondering if anyone could tell me what would be a fair price the mill is a van Norman, the drill press says Delco Dayton Ohio, Doall bandsaw model ML, Warner & Swasey No. 11 tapping and threading machine and not sure on the last piece it is a broaching machine. Should have better pictures next week.

If it was equipment I was buying

Do-all bandsaw -prob around $1800 tops, more like $1500

Large W+S drill - $500-$650

Gorton Mill - $1000 tops

smaller drill press - I would prob only pay around $250-$350 but these usually go for more.

Not too sure what that last machine is, almost looks like a flywheel grinder.

Condition is a big deal here. If everything is in great shape but just dirty then they may be worth more. If it is all worn out to death, knock a zero off each one.

Hope this helps

He is asking 1800 for everything pretty sure he will go 1400 or 1500. Drill press and bandsaw are in current operation and seem to be in good shape. Mill is hooked up and powers on handle for the X axis is loose and gets hung up but seems to be something in the wheel and not to do with the screw in the table. Tapping machine and broaching machine have not been hooked up since he closed his shop years back but are stored inside and were to be working well when he closed his shop.

If it actually is in good shape, I would be calling him before someone else buys it. At that price you could keep what you want and sell the items that are in the way and possibly break even. Or just clean/fix it up and use it all.

I run a small machine shop if you need/want anymore advice

I just happened to have a friend in common with the man. Our mutual friend mentioned I was putting together a new shop and he expressed intrest in gaining some space in his garage so it has not been on the open market yet. I am making plans to purchase and move the lot currently looking to keep the mill and band saw as long as I can figure out all the levers on that huge mill its a lot more intimidating than the table top mill I have used in the past!

Regarding the Van Norman mill, it looks like a 22L. The spindle probably has a proprietary taper. If arbors and collets are there too, it's a good deal. Otherwise you'll need to chase down spindle tooling. Those were good mills in their day. I ran them back in the mid 1970's in a repair shop.

Can a adapter be had spr the mill to run more standard tooling or will the adapter have to be a one off $$$?

You would have to find out which taper that particular mill has. A Van Norman #22 machine could have a B&S #13, Van Norman #50, or even #50 STD spindle taper, depending on when it was made. I'm not aware of any off the shelf adapters for any of those spindle taper to get to a common mill spindle like an R8 (Bridgeport).
