Found this for sale locally. Any idea on what it is? They said Craftsman, I'm not sure if they meant the brand or the style.... What's a good price to pay? They said that it's leather wrapped...

I can't get my computer to save the pic in the upper right of your post, the one with the oval logo area. It appears to me it has the old Craftsman logo, with the "C" underlining the rest of the letters "raftsman". Hard to tell?? :headscrat

Value is in the eye of the beholder. That said, I'd give $20, maybe $25, but I already have 2 of the old, but not that old ones. Would not be surprised to see it sell for $40-$50, prices vary a lot in different areas of the country, east coast, west coast, midwest, etc. etc.

Yeah that's the best pictures they could give me. They're asking for $50.

Anybody have any clue how old this is? I got confirmation that it's a craftsman box. I think it would be kind of neat to use for my woodworking tools.

For fifty bucks does it matter what it is, other than a cool old machinist's chest? Buy it!!!

Hey now, I'm trying to demonstrate some restraint here. Although my grandfathers old woodworking tools would look at home in that box and it has a lot more character than the $50 made in china bamboo box that i was checking out at sam's club today....

I don't know what the box is worth but most boxes of this type have a solid panel that goes over the drawer fronts when not in use and then stores in a slot under the drawers when in use. That panel appears to be missing.

Well it looks like its the yellow underline logo which makes it 1930's I think.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks v8 The seller just sent me larger photo's and I noticed the large gap between the bottom drawer and the bottom of the box. I was wondering what was missing there.

The logo is yellow with the underline and tools in the middle of the underline.

Also the bottom drawer does look like it has a rattle can touch up done with gold paint.

I don't think I'd pay $50 for it as it is missing the front cover as V8 stated. Maybe offer $25. Or keep your eye out for an older Gerstner. You can pick up the less desirable styles of Gerstner that are wrapped in black leather for anywhere from $50-$150 depending on the condition. Usually the leather wears and they look bad. Strip the leather, refinish the wood and you have a sharp looking box with more drawers. Gerstners were usually made from Oak. The leather wrapped ones were Oak, but a cheaper grade.

I don't think I would pay $50 either. I saw a Craftsman box box at a swap meet last year that was a Kennedy rebadge. I'm guessing the one you are looking at is probably a 1930's Kennedy that Sears put the Craftsman name on.

I think not having the front panel really hurts it's value. I see old Kennedy's in good condition occasionally and they usually run in the $25-$35 range
