I found 2 of these while going through stuff in my garage and cannot figure out what it is and where it goes. I think it may be something with my air compressor but not sure.

Can anyone identify this? And where it is used?

Looks like a GM transmission line fitting. They are used at the trans and the cooler end typically. A tube with a barb is inserted and retained by the clip.

Yup,

That's what they are. I had a Jimmy and they were used on both the transmission cooler lines and the oil cooler lines.

Very standard fitting on GM trucks with radiator end-tank trans cooler. Typically a pipe thread on one end, the other is an "assembly line fitting" meaning you push the upset in the tube end past the bent spring, it a face-seal on an o-ring, and its done in 2 seconds per connection with a reliable sealing result.

Ahh but be careful there is a fitting used on forklifts that looks just like a trans fitting but it is not.
I was looking everywhere for a fitting like this. Talking with my forklift guy he said he will take it to the hose shop. It was a standard fitting for forklifts but has a slightly diffrent taper. But if you go in they can tell you. Pirtec is where I went here is what they made for me cost about 15

Maybe a hydraulic fitting from an old Massey Ferguson (1958) tractor I used to have?

I have a GMC Sonoma and replaced the radiator a few years ago - maybe these came with the radiator and I ended up not needing them

That might explain it.

Thanks for the help. No doubt its a GM thing.

How is this fitting even close to a 1958 tractor fitting, or even the McMaster Carr air line fittings????

Let's try again. Here's the OP's photo:

THESE are GM trans line fittings. Look familiar? Snod83 nailed it in Post #2.

Definitely from my radiator replacement for the 1999 GMC Sonoma. The new radiator came with 2 new ones, and I didn't replace the old ones.

Thanks for the help!

Chrysler/Jeep also has a version of those transmission fittings. Slightly smaller diameter than GM, but GM tube works in a pinch if you reduce its diameter about 40 thousandths and shorten the part after the flange. Damhik...
