Help Identifying Walker-Turner Drill Press Motor

Hey all, new to the forum. I just picked up this Walker-Turner 1100 drill press and am starting a restoration project. All is in pretty good shape (mechanically), but it seems to be missing the information plate off of the motor and I was wondering if anyone could help ID the make and model of the motor. It runs on 110, but I would prefer to rewire it for 220 if I can (needs to have wires replaced anyway and I have 220 to spare in my garage.) As I understand it, it should perform better off of 220 anyway - any advice would be welcome.






Motor:

I have looked around on the forums but not seen any other 1100's with a similar motor with an oval tag and large conical protrusion at the base. I'd like to figure out the manufacture, horse power, and amperage, and find a replacement tag if possible. Any help would be appreciated.



Current 110 wiring (to the extent it is helpful):

Four wires coming out of the motor housing, look to be two white, one black, one yellow, but they are pretty old and dirty...

Walker Turner motors generally used a more angular data plate than the oval that seems to have been removed from yours. Without that plate, figuring out all the data you are looking for would be akin to finding a needle in a haystack. You might get a good solid guess as to what it is, but it would be just that. I would run it as is while looking for a suitable replacement.

The oval nameplate, shaft condom and access cover on the upper end cap makes me think it's a Delta magnetic repulsion style motor. I'd post this to the electrical thread at owwm.org. If anyone can pinpoint the motor, those fellas can.

Agreed on the Delta. Best bet would be to take readings to figure out what wires go where (even continuity) to determine if it can be run off 220. Usually it involves moving the current from going in parallel (110) to series (220). One has them going in T1/T3 and out T2/T4, and the other has T2/T3 tied together and power goes in/out T1/T4.

From what I can tell, it spent many years under an outdoor pavilion / shed, in south Florida.

So looks like a 1 HP Delta Repulsion Induction Series 9200. Thanks for the help.

I would check amp draw and general dimensions before trying to nail it down via HP. Figure a 1hp motor pulls about 15A @ 120V.

P.S. You have lots of options for a nameplate:

1. Search Ebay for Delta Motor Nameplate
2. Go here and download the artwork file:

Decals - Delta Mfg. Co. - VintageMachinery.org Knowledge Base (Wiki)

Images for decals, tags, logos, etc

3. Take the artwork from #2 and upload it to bayphoto.com and they'll print/infuse it directly onto a piece of aluminum. Cut it out and you have a near perfect metal nameplate.
4. Go to the OWWM BOYD forum and submit a WTB request.

Was planning on keeping it, it runs fine, just needs some elbow grease. I was just trying to find out what the specs were and if it could be wired to run off 220.

Thanks for the offer, I think I'll stick with the one it has on it, seems to run well, just needed to figure out what it was for wiring and restoration purposes.
