I have a chance to buy this "USA made" "very large vise" from a guy about 1hrs drive from me. I would like to get a good vise but have no idea what it might be. Can anyone help me determine make from this picture alone. It is greatly appreciated.

It comes with the stand. Thanks in advance.

Been listed for a long time and cheap Olympia or the like vise that are listed quite frequently for $20 to $40 and most times are broken in some way.

PM me if you have a price range and size you might like to own because I have to meet a friend down your direction at the end of next week. or keep looking for another vise because that one you posted isn't a keeper unless it's in the price range I mentioned and for light duty.

I really like those import swivel both direction vises for leaving outdoors and doing "ugly" work on. Grinding, painting, welding, etc...20-40 with stand would be worth it. I just spray/pour oil and what not on mine to kinda keep rust at bay.

Thanks guys. Seller says it's made in the USA. He's asking $60 with the stand. So I guess I'm still waiting. Thanks for the help. Drivesitfar a PM has been sent.

highly doubt it is USA...but I have seen one or two old ones on eBay that were...and I'm not talking Parker 474, I do mean this style USA. I have a pic saved somewhere of it. A USA brand I never heard of before/after...

I think Wilton makes one in that style, but it looks older than that. it doesn't look old US steel old though. it looks like Chinese or Taiwan and maybe company name is a US one.

i'm betting Olympia and Mohawk is right on that there is an old Parker and maybe a couple other ones that are good ones to have in this style. not only are they rare they are spendy.

is that the only picture because I think I remember seeing that vise on my Seattle Craigslist? post other pictures if you are able and big as possible if you are able.

sent you back PM.

good luck and keep looking for other good vises besides this vise is my advice.

2 hour round trip not worth the gamble IMO. Way too many people think that "Pittsburgh" tools are US made... :wtf:

I am very leary of it with just the one picture. The seller and I have been texting and he is supposed to send me more pictures I'll post them once I get them. If your right and it's Chinese I'll post immediately if it's a great deal on a real US made vise I might wait a few hours and post pictures after I buy it. ;).

not sure why he doesn't want to take pictures from the sides for you, but agree with my first suggestion to stay clear of that one and keep looking. also there is another vise south of you maybe in Eugene or Salem that has a huge hunk out of the slide that the seller hides with a spray can in his picture. stay clear of that one too.

that Prentiss Morgan you showed me a picture of is a great vise for half the price or a little more than he is asking.

Yeah none of these is really what I am looking for. There are a few Wilton bullets local that I am working on the owners to get down into my price range. I don't mind waiting on the right deal and searching. But I am starting to get a little obsessed. Today I saw a Wilton bullet on the back of a service truck and then started a craigslist search for those too. I guess you never know where the deal will come from.

And on the Asian vises I have a buddy who swears by them for dirty welding work. He has a HF one like the ones above that he uses as a welding vise and says he can't break it and has tried. Still I would prefer a good old us made one for my first true bench vise.

Thanks for all the help with the vises guys. I'll keep looking for that deal of a century. Maybe my next estate sale I'll find a Reed 109 for $5 bucks. I guy can dream right.
