Hi, I was wondering if anyone could identify or tell me anything about this vise? I am planning to restore it and attach it to my (future) workbench.
Thanks everyone.

Sheesh......I go out for a pizza and miss the vise ID. Fine....I will pretend that I ddin't read either of the above posts.

Its a Prentiss Vise Company item....Model 163. It's a lighter duty vise since it has the exposed screw and castings. With the cylinder type nose, I would guess around the late 30's to mid 40's for a date.

Oh Hello Zrexxer and Bigcaddy!! I didn't see you were there....cough ......cough.

Catalyze,

I waited as long as i could but i figured you were still in the covered wagon making your trek to the big city for a can of spray paint. I didn't think you would be back for a few days.:D

Thank you all for your responses, I appreciate your wealth of knowledge. Would production of this lasted till the end of the war? That's my understanding of about when it would have been purchased. Does anyone know how to get the screw out? Also, anyone know what the original finish would have been? I was considering bluing it after cleanup.

Also, that vise would have had (or maybe you have it?) a center hold-down screw that would let you mount it to the bench top and "swivel" it. At least the one I have does.

The original would probably have been black paint. It would look cool stripped and blued.
