This is my coworker’s torque wrench. It’s a snap on QJR-217, but I’ve yet to see another in my searches that has a 5-200 range; I really would like to get my hands on my own because the gearwrench I have doesn’t have the range I need. It says series B and has a blue handle, but I can’t find anything that has that 5-200 on ebay.

Can anyone point me in a better direction? I have a saved search for qjr-217 and qjr-217b but nothing with 5-200 has popped up yet.

Unless you just dead set on Snap On branding, I’d just go with the CDI 2002MRMH. Snap on is the parent company of CDI, thus the OEM for a lot of there torque wrenches. In regards to the the range variance, Click type torque wrenches generally are less accurate near the bottom of the range, thus It makes it difficult to find a one size fits all torque wrench.

My QJR-217B, date code 10-79, is 30 in/lbs to 200 in/lbs.

Keep in mind that if you do find one that they are no longer serviceable if parts are needed to calibrate.

The QJR217 is a 3/8'' drive inch pound torque wrench with a reversible ratcheting head. No longer in production. The wrench was made by Precision Instruments at the time when Snap-on had a partnership with them. The ratchet head is Snap-on. The range is 30-200 inch pounds. Where you got the 5 inch pounds from, I have no idea. They pop up on eBay from time to time. I have a QJR117F which is the same wrench in 1/4'' drive. I got mine on eBay brand new with the case.

You are not imagining things. I just picked up my QJR 117 from getting calibrated and it is a 5 - 200 in/lb wrench. Unfornunatly the calibration was only checked from 40 to 200 but the wrench was still in specs since 1981 when I bought it from my boss at the time. I will assume the lower numbers are still in spec also. The 5 is very hard to read.

Until very recently torque wrench calibration specified a range of 20% to 100% of maximum torque value. Even if the scale went below 20% of maximum it was not guaranteed to be in calibration at those values. Recently the standard has changed and the torque wrench is required to be in calibration for the full range of the scale indicated on the tool. The QJR217 calibration is only valid for 40-200 inch lbs. Also, the blue handle was used on metric torque wrenches at the time that one was manufactured. It is possible that wrench scale is for centimeter kilogram rather than inch lbs.
