Ok so I am getting my *** kicked here I moved into a new house with carpet tiles glued to the concrete the glue is not hard its gooey sticky and I have tried everything! scraping with razor blades scrapers solvents from jasco to goof off by the gallon it will take some layers off but the residue is still there! This **** must have been made in China cause it didn't stick to the carpet but seems to have bonded with the damned concrete! I have read the forums and found most guys end up grinding or blasting. Any suggestions for someone that does good work in my area !? I would like this all blasted or ground out and the stained I have apprx 430 sq ft and am on a budget but i gotta get it done!

Thanks in advance !

pull the tiles up and use a torch on it. all glue has an ether in it to make it harden faster and they are all flamable. you will be able to srap it up with a wide putty knife.

....or a heat gun maybe then use a putty knife. im not so sure about an open flame, but then ive never tried it either.

just as a note i have used wd40 to remove glue/adhesive for me it works better than goof off or some of the other...

FIRST - Take a breath. You come off here as a bit overwhelmed, desperate and pissed off. When I' in that mode, I do something I wouldn't have if I were cooler and it usually ends up costing more and involves hurting myself.

SECOND - Get a friggin' GOOD respirator, buddy. Especially if you're thinking heat gun. Don't try an open flame; that's just inviting a fire in your new house. Have you tried acetone, MEK? Both of those work great but can overcome you in a closed space. Be smart and buy a HIGH QUALITY (meaning $$$) respirator and step away while you're feeling overwhelmed and pissed off.

Will you take a photo of the area and post it?

I have an idea how to help and it is not that hard to do. Need to find out more about the thickness to be removed, how much is left? How clean are you wanting it? Staining is a very broad term. I have never used a flame, would not recommend it.

Just went and looked at some of your other post since I'm new here.

Find out if you can afford to have it polished. Maybe not too bad $$ unless you go real smooth.

RickMiester> Dude I tried fire boy did I try fire it just seemed to turn my concrete into a shiney **** tragic mess I poored ether and used a butane torch and scraper like I was trying to dig my way to china it left the concrete charred and gummy and horrible no matter how hot it got or how much I scrapped its the same. just blacker.

December45 > Seriously I have used Ether Jasco gasolinegoof off citrus flooring glue remover WD 40 is no bueno

Dan in pasadena > I bet you wouldnt be surprised if I were to tell you I have already set a nice portion of concrete on fire ....... completely on purpose..... no really I assure you I meant to do that.

tncatadjuster>Ill post a pic tommorow morning as for thickness it looks super thin but the more I scrape the more comes out its like the comcrete is bleeding glue the only thing that has done any damage at all was a steamer brush thing called a shark it did a great job but took 2 hours and we got like a piece the size of a basketball.

Everyone I think I might have the steam preasure washer this weekend I have also contacted the guy who gave me my initial quote for doing the garage and he is talking diamond grinder. we will see pics and more frustration to come

If someone gives you a quote to use a diamond grinder, make sure it is BINDING. Based on your description, I think it would just gum up a diamond grinder, and the vendor would get pissed & try to charge you triple.

Did you try a regular pressure washer?

just a wild thought - go to the website of some glue-on carpet companies, find an 800 number, call & ask to talk to an applications engineer.

I second Jaguar Fan's diamond grinder recommendation. I hate for my first post to be a plug but I'm in Sacramento and I have a guy that is great at this. He does a ton of concrete and recently took up carpet and refinished the concrete in a salon.
