Well gents, I've finally figured out how to post photos on here, so here's my first "score thread".

I while back I asked everyone's opinion on an older Milwaukee abrasive chop saw and was advised that the price was too high and I'd be better off getting a dry/cold cut saw. Well, I met the fellow and bought his (IBM machinist) Dad's old Craftsman 1/2 HP Blockhead Grinder with stand for $50.

As sweet as that was, I still needed a saw to cut metal with. So I cruised Craigslist for a few days and found this about 2 1/2 hours away. A Milwaukee Model 6190-20 "Dry Cut Machine" per the data plate. Yes, the dude has an abrasive cut blade on it, but that's the WRONG blade. This is a dry-cut saw.
The guy who was selling it, I don't think he ever used it, I think he got it from a buddy in trade. I think the buddy of his used the saw until the original blade wore out, and then didn't want to pay the price for another carbide blade when he saw the abrasive cut blade was so much cheaper. After a long drive and shelling out $60 bucks. She came home with me!

Sooo, I'm redoing the floors in my house, and I have this old Craftsman (King Sealy) table saw that I picked up for $40 bucks last year at the estate sale of the inventor of the barcode system, Norman Joseph Woodland.

...but, I'd like something with a bigger table so I can more easily handle plywood and the like. SO again, I scour Craigslist hoping to find a good old piece of iron to fit the bill. I'd have loved to find an old Delta Unisaw, but they tend to be booku money! BUT! I do manage to find a listing for an old Rockwell/Delta Model-10 table saw for sale about an hours drive from me.
So I load up the wife and kids, hook the trailer up to my Expedition, and off we go. Wound up meeting a really nice retired police officer who had gotten out of woodworking and was just looking to get stuff out of his two-bay shop.
Paid $150 for this old gal, and it even came with a 5 foot long extension/outfeed table! Now I'm really set for plywood!

The plate at the bottom left corner of the saw reads: Enterprise (Name of the equipment shop). Nassau Road. Uniondale New York (516)-485-2804

He also threw in for free, the 14 gauge extension cord and plug. This saw runs off of 220v. In order to repay the favor, I paid him an extra $20 for 6 pipe clamps for cabinetry work.

Here's the mind blowing part. After the Delta is loaded, he asks me if there is anything else I want to buy. Not really, but I ask if his old green Rockwell router is for sale. He hesitates, then says "You know what, you can have both of them" while pointing behind me. Not only did he give me the green Rockwell router, he gave me a 1HP Craftsman router mounted on a Wolfcraft router table too! Then, as I am thanking him and again about to leave, he gives me a SECOND table saw! Granted, it's just a cheap Task Force 10" with no table, but holy smokes batman! He then gives me the original Rockwell dado blade that came with the saw and a spare blade for the Task Force table saw. And finally, as I am in the truck and am pulling away, he steps beside my trailer and waves me to a stop. After he throws something in the toolbox on the trailer he steps to my window and tells me he gave me a Makita palm sander as well!!!

You better believe I was thanking him as I left!

So, for $40 last year, and $280 this year, or $320 total. I got:

A Craftsman Blockhead Grinder.
A Milwaukee Dry-Cut saw.
Three table saws!!!!
Two routers.
One router table.
Six pipe clamps.
A electric palm sander.
And two spare blades!!!!!!!!!!

D'Ya'll think I did okay?

Thanks man! That's actually my 3rd Blockhead. I've got another 1/3 HP that is freaking mint, and a 1/2 HP from torqueman that needs a little bit of repair to one shaft, but is otherwise mint as well.

Yeah I was pretty happy! I can usually find a decent deal, but rarely do I get one this nice!

I really like the personal history behind the Craftsman saw. That fellow had an indoor movie theater in there and everything.

Had a hobby machine/electrical shop in the basement. I bought his 1930's ancient multi-meter too! It's about 18"x10"x5" inches.

Thanks Trony!

10 years? That's the goal. Not so much the amount of years, but the shop filled with awesome. I'm using tools from the 1850's and up and enjoying every minute of it.

Good chit Jar.
As we say here "poco a poco"(little by little).
Be patient and stick to it. Your collection will be mind boggling in 5 years or so.
Pura Vida !

please post pics of your tools from the 1800's that you actually use (not just collect)

I should have said "tool" not tools, but yeah I'll post it sometime. I lucked out and bought a bunch of stuff from a local farm a while back. Sometime in the farms past they had a blacksmiths shop.

I bought the unmolested post-leg vise for $75. The hand cranked drill press (massively heavy) for $60. And the old Buffalo blower (newer than the vise or the drill press) for I think $20-$25.

The vise is the only one that actually sees use right now, but if I can dig up some old square-shank drill bits for the drill press I'll be putting the old girl back to work.

The blower will be put back into action too as I'd love to start dabbling in blacksmithing for fun, but it'll have to wait a few years until I graduate.

Actually, my tools would be from the 19th century. 18th century would refer to tools from the 1700's.

Thanks man^^^

Granted, a lot of the freebies are the cheaper brands, but I'm still very grateful.

I've been wanting a router and router table for a while, but I can't afford I nice rig like I would like to get. While the table and router combo the fellow gave me aren't the greatest, they will more than fit the bill until I can find the right one for me.

I think I'm going to pass the Task Force table saw on to a family member who might be able to use it. Heck, I bet he could use the Makita sander too!
