Hi, So im in need of a portable tool storage. I need some recommendations for a toolbox in this size as i am not familiar who makes a good one.

Some things that important:
-Around 100-200 lbs
-something with the craftsman griplatch or snap-on epiq drawer latch
-full length drawers
-less than 36" wide but wider than 24"

So far the one one that matches all of these is the craftsman 53951
prod_12155282612

anymore options out there for something in this class? Price doesn't matter, if snap-on made a micro Epiq i would buy it.

John Deere has a 18 x 30 top chest with lift to open drawers. Another company has or used to have the same boxes in different colors

Lots of HD equipment guys are familiar with portable boxes. Maybe give the reason for the preference for the griplatch type vs. the more traditional drop front

you say portable tool storage...

box will stay in the back of your truck once it's loaded up?
or
a box you need to load and unload from your truck?

the box you posted only looks to be 12" deep...

Need to define portable.. 100-200lb sounds like your not carrying it out to the truck each call, or truck to thing being worked on.

So portable as in just away from the main shop box stays in your service truck kind of thing?

My purpose for a small box is to bring along some tools in my Mercedes SUV. The 24” width minimum requirement is to fit my 1/2” torque wrench for my wheel nuts and make other emergency repairs.

I want the griplatch style because of preference only.

Thanks

A list of the tools and a photo of where it will be stored, with measurements...

I'm thinking, if it is to be stored in a trunk space or well shaped space, that drawers won't be as good as a top opening device.

And you might be better off with a large strong bin to put things in.

We carry the 1.5 ton HF aluminum racing jack, a chunk of 4x4, jack stands, a wheel chock, ratcheting breaker bar, lug nut socket, full sized spare, full size jump pack, jumper cables, rags, gloves, kitty litter and small shovel (For snow), and general hand tools. Everything goes in a large bin in the back of the Astro Van alongside the jack handle and wheel/tire.

Masterforce has different colors of the JD box i posted above. They also have a new 24 x 30 top chest with lift to open drawers

There is a welders box that is widely available, that might work for purpose. I have the Westward one. They are 30" long

I looked at the John Deere and the extremes. I ended up going with a Montezuma for the truck bed. Not exactly what you said in the OP but a thought

I was thinking motezuma too. It is unorthodox in design, but I need a weatherproof box for the bed of my truck. Do you like it? Does anyone else here have one?

I love it. Worked great when I was doing equipment repair out of the bed of my 1/2t Silverado. When I stepped up to a 1t with a service body I just swung it in to the bed on that.bc5722117b3eb71816365311ec1538b7.jpg679b0195849a46d6612b320c7ba268d9.jpg

For that few tools, i would use one of the plastic boxes from ridgid, dewalt, Milwaukee, etc. Light, portable, easily organized woth kaizen foam, cheap.

Eliminate some stuff. Been at this a while and never even considered a torque wrench for a road kit. When I did this had a hip roof box and one of those Cman duckface pictured above.
