Hello Everyone,

I was hoping for your thoughts on my current shop layout (below). Looking for feedback on how you would improve layout efficiency. What would you change? I especially need feedback on storage options as I definitely don't have enough.

Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom.

Notes for clarification:
-Mezzanine above workshop.
-Man doors on three sides.
-Two columns (along dotted line) support beam to allow somewhat open concept between the two varying ceiling height bays.
-Red blocks are just toys that can by moved around - shown for reference of space.
-Star wars looking figure is a 2 post lift.

Looking at what you have I would make one room across the back of the center section and have it be workroom/loading area. Then have a MEZ across the whole area. This also eliminates the wasted area between the current bath/reloading area. Is there a reason not to make the lean-to full length and park the mower and atv in the lean-to? You can also look at my build below to see how I incorporated this into my shop.

Thanks! I'll check your build out :)
I'll play around with that. I definitely see value now in moving the loading room under the mez. I want to be able to put a 30' trailer in the bay next to the lift, hence why the shorter mez. Area behind Lean-to is retailing wall.

It seems unlikely the staircase could meet code if that matters and not comfortable. What looks like 9 feet of run with 9 or 10 feet of rise?

If you are going to give up the prime floor space to a staircase, make the mezzanine as large enough justify the loss like 12x40.

Does the restroom & dog wash really need walls & doors? 99.9% on the time you work alone would a little screening like a stake bed panel be enough? and move it against the outside wall keep the floor space open.

Slop sink?

Have you done a height projection of the back wall showing the height of everything? What is the ceiling height under the mez? What is the floor to ceiling above the mez? Is the area clear from the mez floor to the roof? If you have to raise the mez over a trailer you can step the mez floor if you have enough room above the raised floor to make it usable space. Is there anything in the workshop area that will dictate a minimum ceiling height? Don't forget that the mezzanine floor will be some thickness near a foot thick, to many planners forget this and don't plan it any thicker than the line on the drawing.

Move the steps back away from the mezzanine 5 feet, put dogwash and bathroom underneath the stair landing, gain a lot of open space.

Might want to put the meat locker closer to the outside bay door? less chance for blood/hair to migrate inside....

Are you thinking about using a coolbot or a reefer unit? I did a retrofit on a cooler room from a reefer to the coolbot and it worked great...

Nice build...good luck!

In shop layout I think of 2 things: less is more and the ability to change. And I have redone my garage at least 3 times in a major way and constantly making small changes. So don't lock yourself too much into the design. 3 separate 'rooms' doesn't work in my theory. A separate woodshop has never worked for me. Sure, sawdust can be messy, but so is most all work unless you're building computers. A good dust system and some curtains if you must. Otherwise you are blocking out a lot of otherwise convertible and useable space.

Reloading: I can see the need to have a locked area. But I have seen reloading areas that are no more than the size of a bathroom.

Also, if you're going to the trouble of building a lean to, make it full length. Maybe put the hanging room and air compressor outside in a shed.

Where is this? A lot of design is weather related.
