So its getting damn cold out and im sick of the torpedo and halogen lights i have for heat. Decided to go with electric radiant heat hung from the rafters or mounted to the walls. Im going to insulate the ceiling, R30 and do the walls with R13 or something else (need some suggestions, 2 2x4's layed on flat going in opposite directions with metal siding) maybe 1 1/2" rigid insulation?tape seams? Im going to install a 10x10 (or anything close to it overhead door) and ive got 2 8x7 uninsulated doors (may insulate them this coming weekend). The space is 20x30, 16' to the ridge and a smaller 20x20 area with an 8' ceiling with a storage loft above.
I was looking on ebay and came across some 10K btu single element heaters that ran on 220/240. Theyre relatively cheap and can be hooked together with a contactor that they also sell. Then they can be controlled with a line voltage thermostat. And i was thinking 1 or 2 smaller units for the work area (spot under the loft) So what i need to know, is how many of these would i need to heat the area and what do i need to make the system complete and actually work? Ive got a 200amp service going to the barn so im good on power, im only using 3 spaces in my panel right now for lights and 2 receptacle circuits.
