Hi Everyone - I am hoping that you all can help me.

I'm in the process of converting my 3 car garage so that I can install lifts primarily for storage purposes. I don't work on my cars too much (little time), but have too many cars so need more storage space.

My garage is oversized with 12ft. ceilings so I don't really have many constraints. I am have my garage doors converted to high lift / jackshaft this week and will be ready for my lifts soon. I will be storing a BMW M6 and a Porsche 911 on the lifts with the daily drivers kept below (BMW 760 and Mini Cooper).

I have read many prior threads on GJ and am left more confused than I started. All the brands an opinions are confusing. Money is not a concern, I'm storing $100K+ cars so I do not mind spending the right money and don't want to buy cheap.

So I have looked at numerous 4 post lifts (Rotary, Bendpak, Backyard Buddy, ACLifts) and also looked at the ACLifts M1-6.5.

What are your opinions? What is the best and why? Anyone installed ACLifts Park-King or Apex 8000? How about the Rotary Shockwave lifts (14,000lbs seems like major overkill for me).

I would appreciate opinions.
Thanks
Mike

i have a bendpak. it is a quality product.

i dont know where it was made, i didnt use that as a criteria. i used certification. i dont want it to fail, especially since i stand under it and beat and pull on things.

if you look at this page:

http://www.bestbuyautoequipment.com/bendpak-4-post-lifts-s/501.htm

(note that i didnt buy from them, and have no relationship with them)

you will notice there is a gold square image at the bottom of the bendpak items. as you look at the other options on the site, you will see similar things one some lifts, but not on others. that is the seal of some accreditation agency for auto lifts. the ones without it are substantially cheaper.

while you might be more worried about price, or COO, i wanted to point this out.

i will also point out, because i can't help myself, that the WORTH website listed in the previous posting has quotation marks around the American when they mention American Made. that makes me suspicious. maybe it just means that some small, insignificant parts are sourced offshore because they are impossible to get US made ones, and they are trying to be completely honest. or maybe it means that the entire hydraulic assembly is a kit they buy from china. dont know, dont care enough to figure it out. if COO is important to you, though, it might be worth clarifying that.

Unless you make your living lifting several cars a day up into the air to make repairs I don't know why anyone would spend more than what Greg Smith charges for their Atlas lift.

If you have the cash to impress your friends then by all means spend it on something very very similar, painted a different color and more expensive. If however you want a safe and economical lift take a hard look at what Greg Smith sells. You should visit their store in Norcross for all that they offer.

Also make sure that you have the appropriate ceiling height in your garage for the thing with cars on and under it. I almost did not.

A friend that owns a BMW/Mimi shop in Alpharetta helped me make my decision when I expressed my concerns about COO.

If you are driving in and out under lifts on a regular basis, strongly consider wide and tall models. Hd-9xw.
