Well, after reading a LOT of information on this forum, I have decided to go with VCT for my flooring. Honestly, it comes down to what I feel more comfortable installing. I have done tile floors before and think that the best results will be from something I know.

The garage is a small 2 door, 2 car attached with kitchen entry. The colour is Sunflower yellow (Light pale yellow) with white ceiling and wood trim. There is a 8 inch wide "stripe" of checkered board (black and white) wallpaper trim at 40 inches off the floor. Lots of stainless steel stuff in there too.

I was going to use the tan epoxy coating from Lowes. I figured it would be kinda neutral and easy to clean/hide road dirt. Now that I have more colour choices, what should I do? I had black and white checkered board flooring in my old garage so I really want to do something different this time. I don't want it to stand out too much though.

So, what suggestions do you folks have for me? I am an F1 fan, A Ferrari fan and ex-owner, BMW driver, Exotic car lover, Old car lover. I do NOT like Nascar or Ford or Dodge. (Well, maybe some of the 60's muscle stuff....MAYBE) I really just want a real nice place to park my car and to do my thing when I get the chance. Mostly I detail and maintain my current cars. I also do some wood working. (Turning, some home improvement type stuff, sweat equity)

I have some Apollo 11 shots, space shuttle shots, BMW sign, Jaguar sign, Ferrari sign (All 3 are 12" or less in size), Ferrari flag and a BMW wheel (air hose holder) hanging on the walls. I also have some old licence plates and a wall mounted vacuum (with Porsche sticker) on the wall.

So, with all that info, what can you come up with for me? I have lots of ideas. I just don't know how well any of them would look in real life.

Okay, since now one seems to want to chime in......

Here is what I am thinking:

Boarder of 51816 Cherry red, two rows deep.
Inside of that, one row of 57509 Lemon Lick.
Then 51860 Soft cool Gray for the field tiles.

Another thought was to skip the yellow and add to the field tiles a white F1 starting grid stripe. kinda looks like ...... [__________] ....... that! (Sorry, best I could do there!) I would have to cut tiles in half for this however and I'm not too sure how good it would turn out. If I were a real artist, I would cut out a Ferrari crest, BMW roundel, a Porsche crest and Aston Martin wings and put them into the floor. I hardly think I am that good though!

Seriously, how can you think anyone can give you any good suggestions. Might as well ask what religion to believe in or who to vote for in this upcoming election.

I guess I was just looking for ideas. Maybe something to spark my own creative juices. Actually, I think I gave enough information about me and my garage that someone could come up with something.

If you want a quick down and dirty way to do that, use microsoft excel or another spreadsheet program. Set the column width and row height so that each cell ends up being a square. After that, you can fill in each square in various colors - can't remember off hand if you can do custom colors or not. You can also use the border tool to draw lines around the cells to represent your walls. I attached a screenshot with a couple of examples.

There are ways to get designs cut into VCT pretty easily. The easiest is to take a design to a company that does water jut cutting have them cut the designs into the tiles. The last time we did that in ceramic at work, the cutting alone for one 15' x 15' logo was about $5000.

The cheaper, DIY option would be to use a band saw or scroll saw to cut your design out the tiles your self. I could see problems with getting the tiles to fit tightly with this option though.

There are also the floor decals that could be applied to the surface of the VCT and then sealed with wax or a clear coat of urethane.
