So I'm in the market for a toolbox. The only one I’ve had is a plastic one that the top has broken off. Anyways, the two I’m looking at are different in style but in price not too far off.

1. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-4...-with-Solid-Wood-Top-Black-7440946R/206839475 during HD black Friday will be $199
2. https://www.harborfreight.com/30-in...iMTU5Ljk5IiwicHJvZHVjdF9p ZCI6IjEyMDg1In0= with a coupon cost $159.99

The Husky’s benefit is the amount of storage and the downside is that it felt rather cheap when I saw one in person, mainly the metal felt thin. (21 guage).

The US General, I like the portability and the reviews have been great. Helps that it’s $40 cheaper. The downside is the amount of storage and I prefer black.

Do you guys thing the Husky can still be portable, mainly moving through my garage? Sometimes I work in my driveway but I plan to “set it” in the back of my garage.

FYI, what I really want is this:

Is this to be used professionally? Are you just starting?
A tool cart is not a bad thing to have in a professional shop. You'll outgrow it as your primary tool storage. That's the point when you add on with the larger unit, but the cart will still be useful to keep your commonly used tools within arm's reach.

I wouldn't try to keep too much weight in that cart. It's bolted, not welded. My concern is that it would be prone to racking, but the reviews are good, so maybe I'm worrying about nothing.

The HF cart is good and very well respected even by pro users ..
depends how you want approach it and what important to you.
If want the bench top space then the bench cabinet wins, if want portable cart then 5 draw cart wins and could add to it later with a cabinet to expand storage .
Other options could be HF yukon
Personally I would spend more and get the 60" Husky bench 24" depth as pretty solid 19 gauge box with excellent capacity/layout and price sensible on blackfriday or similar sale deal.

It will not be used professionally. I just work on my own cars but have a lot of miscellaneous tools including wood working, power tools, that if I could keep all in 1 place it would be nice, which the US General cart wont suffice for. I don’t have to have them all in 1 toolbox or the same place but I think it makes for a clean garage, which the Husky will help me do since I think I can fit everything there.

@ therest - I have this tool cart and its been great so far. And the $199 price is a great buy. Where did you figure out the black Friday pricing for Home Depot? I have a few things that I would like to know if they are going to be on sale.

@Joey.Donatelli - Well there was a "leak" of the ad a few days ago and can be found in the Hot Deals forum but also, if you look at last years HD Black Friday ad the same deal can be found there too.

I personally thought the "leak" was just last years ad but I can't confirm either.

I recommend the 44" HF box. it is better than the husky you pictured but more comparable in function.
the tool cart is generally in addition to a toolbox

the HF 44" is 150 bucks more on best sales offers and not sure shallower drawers or color going be Op's thing .
The little husky would do home use if think big enough, you don't get much in a 18" depth box as drawers 16" at best .
Ideally want little more $ spent but if that all you willing go to then yukon or husky about only options ...
Other tip is buy something expandable, side hang-on cabinets can save you down the road .

I ended up getting that Husky box as a gift on Black Friday last year. Inside my head I was a little unsure and kind of bummed, but I've had it for a year and the box is fine, and at the price it's a lot of storage. The metal is a little thin but the drawers all work fine, and the main drawer I have loaded up with full rails of sockets in all three drive sizes, metric and standard, as well as swivel sockets and a rail of etorx sockets, plus ratchets and my main extensions. Its HEAVY and the drawer opens and closes well and shows very little sag. I wrench quite a bit out of my garage and it's been great. I don't use the wooden top anymore because on top sits a US General that does feel a little nicer (Overall finish/Heavier metal) not worlds apart but obviously another notch above, but as others noted its quite a bit more money.

I think if you're needing the storage space the cart is going to leave you wanting more. The Husky will be fine, and the top will be nice to store another box on down the road, or work on small projects up there. You can also throw whatever you want on top! Box of extra car parts, bucket of all your car washing and detailing ****, yadda yadda. It was nice to get everything into one corner of the garage!

Yarpo, thanks for your input. I go back and forth but you're right about the car leaving me wanting more as far as space. Plus, as anyone working with tools you always end up with more tools/accessories that you need to find a place to put in to stay organized.

Go for the Husky box... way more storage and bang for your buck. You can always find uses for the drawers that you don't initially fill up.

I agree with others.. after looking at them in the store, I like the layout, and they're a lot of storage for little $$, they're not the best made boxes. But at $200 that's a hell of a deal. If I were in the market for a new box or boxes, It'd be on the top of my list.

For home use, they're quite adequate. I think you'll be a lot happier with an actual box rather than a tool cart.

I would get that Husky for 200 along with the HF black cart for 99.. Boxes feel "cheap" when they are not loaded with tools..

HF also has a black 4 drawer cart that's a little smaller, but of the two you listed, I would probably get the HF cart. I know a few guys who got those Home despot "Mobile" workstations. The ones that were left stationary did fine, but the ones that were used as "Mobile workstations" got beat up fairly quickly. casters are not up to the task, and the cabinets weren't really heavy enough for "Mobile" use.
Other option is to look for just a Lower Box. Home Depot sells them separately, as does Lowes and other places. A lower box will have drawers all the way down, and they tend to be sturdier, as thet were built to carry an upper as well as whatever is in the lower's drawers.

IMHO, HF has the 16 drawer rolling box - top and lower - for 299.99 w/coupon. The box is rated at 1050 lbs and has gotten some pretty good YouTube reviews. Just my opinion.

Ultimately, you have to make the decision because you are the one that has to use it and live with it.

Anyway, good luck.

I've had a Husky 46" for about a year now. No complaints with it at all. If they drop to 199 again, I plan on snagging up another one.

For the Husky, there are different models of SKU 736089. Model #: 7440946R, HOTC4609B11M, HOTC4609B1QBD. There could be newer models numbers too.

If you choose the Husky, make sure you get the one with drawer liners and double bearing slides in the big bottom drawers.

Think you'll find current husky 46" is the single slide deep drawer version which a cheaper made version over the earlier 2 slide version .
only husky I really like is the 60" 24" depth workbench model as seems pretty well constructed to the cost .
You can't expect too much from a budget 200buck tool cabinet though ...

Yeah, I'll have to pay attention to that bottom drawer.

Again, I'm going back and forth. Not sure if the cart's marketed sq in space includes the amount of space you save with the holes it has along the sides. I think it's a huge space saver. Consider two of kb1982's Husky drawers, two of them have screwdrivers that would along the side of the cart. I'm not saying the cart has more space than the Husky, just that it stores more than what it appears.

I prefer Husky in general. In my opinion, they are well made & my Home Depot is great to deal with.

That being said, i know plenty of people who like, use, and modify their HF US General boxes and carts.

This is a personal preference situation. Considering how long it will last you & both are affordable, the price difference doesnt matter. Just buy the one that feels right.
