Hey everybody,

I attempting to pull this live center apart but it's proving to be nearly impossible. I've got the back cover off and bearing race removed but I can't figure out how to remove the taper shaft and bearing. The outer cover and point is solid so everything must come out the back, right?

If ther is something I've missed or if you are familiar, please give me some advise. The bearing is as smooth as gravel and needs to be replaced

I worked with live centers all my life...With the axial thrust loads they are subjected to and the T.I.R. requirements of the 60 degree center, I would recommend (1) Buying a new live center or (2) Have a bearing supply house rebuild it with a written performance guarantee.....

It went together...so, it has to come apart.

Study it vey closely, even maybe, make a sketch to help figure it out. It's probably pressed. You might need some heat and fixturing to get it apart.

I would think that new bearings are easily findable so, wrecking the old ones is no big deal.

It may not be worth the work to do when you can just buy a new one of any desired quality level. But, it might be a fun, learning experience.

didn't realize Ready Tool is a CT company
Looks like they repair them as well

"I have a "Ready Tool" Live center that needs repair, what do I do?
UPS the center to us at the above listed address. Once we receive it we will examine the center, fax you a repair estimate. When you receive the repair estimate, sign it and write a PO# on it (if necessary) and simply fax it back to us. And we'll get started at that point. Please make sure that all your company information is in the box with the center, along with a contact name so that we are able to fax you quickly! Most live centers (and Grinder Dogs) are repaired at 45% of the list price"
