Any ideas on the period this saw was made? From the research I've done it looks like a Dreiers brothers challenger hacksaw. Anyone know when Dreisers brothers were in business? When they went out of business? I know Craftsman never made any of their own tools and the manufacturers of their wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers have been well documented on this forum, but who made their saws?

True, we don't seem to place much emphasis on the humble hacksaw.

The best clue here is having what they call a crown top logo. I'm not a CM collector nor an expert on them, but I'm pretty sure that was introduced sometime in the late 1950s to early 1960s, and continued to be used into the early 1970s. Definitely a 60s-70s thing, but unsure about late 50s.

Be patient--other CM-knowledgeable members will chime in.

Looks like it's a very substantial saw. I finally threw out all the cheapies I have as I've upgraded them over time with vintage yard sale finds. Once you use good ones, you know the difference.

Always here to help a brother out.

" So Ms.Hacksaw, How's it going? I just figured I would come over and say hi. What brings you here alone? In truth I sort of had a ulterior motive for coming over. You see my friend over there? He is a bit shy, but is completely infatuated with you, and since he is fixated on you I figured I might as well come over and learn more about you as it is likely you are going to end up over at his table anyways. Want to come meet him?"

There you go, I got the door open for you.

If he doesn't have a wingman I would suggest following the Tao of Steve.

Be desireless
Be excellent
Be gone

By asking us, he is kinda being a Stu not a Steve.

Thanks for your input, the saw is very rigid and feels very lightweight compared to my every day hacksaw frame which is an MK morse master McCoy, having done further research into the design of this saw I believe the original manufacturer was Dreiets brothers of Chicago, from a very similar saw and patent application I found on google patents I think Easco tools took owner of Dreiers brothers at some point and improved the design of this saw by beefing up the design and changing the tension mechanism, they also added a built in tension that indicates when the blade is tensioned to 40,000psi. Pictured is the Milwaukee branded version of the saw and I believe snap-on and matco offered the saw too.
