Help Me Decide...1 72” Box or 2 44” Boxes

All,
Been a longtime lurker, just finished my 2 car garage. Got plenty of ideas from here (plywood walls! Electric Heat, Max Hi lift door with side opener)

One of the last things I need is a new, larger toolbox. I will be using the box more as a workbench and plan to build a wooden foundation for it so it will sit up and on top of the concrete foundation in the garage.

I know everybody’s thoughts on Harbor Freight, but I love their US General boxes. Now that they are all the same depth, 22”.

Do I buy 1 72” toolbox for $1000. Or buy 2 44” boxes for $900.
The only differences I see really are the size of the drawers in the boxes.
Help me decide please! I attached some pictures of my garage and some pictures of the boxes.

for me, I would get the two 48's, eventually I will want to move them, and the two will be easier.

I have 3 of the old 44”. I really like them and thought they would hold more than 2 of the 56” and were a better buy than 2 of the 72”. 5 years later, I just moved to a house with a bigger garage and have more money and would choose 2 of the 72” since cost is no longer as much of a concern. If you are near NH, pm me if you want to buy my lightly used DIYer set of 42” cabinets for half the price of new once I finish my renovation and buy new cabinets in a few months months.

I find that the large boxes have less and larger drawers. I like more drawers that are smaller. I'd go with the pair.

You need a bigger garage.

Somebody had to say it. :lol_hitti

Ok, joking aside, get the two 44" toolboxes. Since you are talking about the tops being workbench area, you'll have 88" instead of 72" of workspace.

I'd go with two of the smaller boxes. Easier to move, easier to organize tools in smaller drawers (greater flexibility to segregate by tool type in smaller drawers). I went with 2 smaller (36") top & bottom chests and would do it again. My initial logic was based on the available room that I have in my shop. If you are building from a clean slate, you don't have that constraint.
But I like having Inch combo wrenches in one drawer, and metric in another, etc. I much prefer having more and shallower drawers for this. You may not, of course.

Plus you can add a third (or fourth set) and it will look like you planned it that way!
