Help me decide between these two boxes for my brother..

So, I'm getting a box for my brother. The one's hes got is about 10 years old. He doesn't WANT anything SUPER nice and really it doesn't need to be "top of the line". The ones I've come up with so far are the matco 4222 and the SO KRA2813. SO is $2695 and the Matco is $2995. Both are about 53" wide. For some reason I just CANNOT think of which may be better for his use. Now he has a 41" husky thats quite tall. Any help would be GREAT.

does it have to be new? if not id look for a nice used krl in that price range, and you can get a nice used krl for 3000 theres a couple floatin around on cl around our area

Yeah, I'd HAVE to get him a new one. Is there any particular reason bad with the ones i've posted?

and i would think that the # you ment to type was kra2318 cuz i dont think theres any kra28XX
but yeah kra boxes are nice there just shorter then krls and shallower

I would avoid buying new as much as possible. 2-3m buys you an awful lot of used box. As soon as you get either one of those new ones, they will instantly be worth half that amount. From StrictlyToolboxes you can get a 24"x56" box delivered to you for $1100.

I purchased a KRA series box (KRA2212A) back in September and am absolutely loving it, worth every penny, I use it every day. I was actually looking to upgrade to the box you posted above hopefully in a few years.

Only thing making me nuts is...the Matco one is a lot roomier inside and only $300 more

the matco box is a little newer to their line correct? I would stick with something that has been out there for a little bit.
also drawer configuration helps a little. and the top drawer does not need a divider to make it strong enough for everyday use.

For those prices you could get a nice used SO KRL 1022, 722 or 7022. (KRL>>>KRA)

However I know what you mean by wanting it to be new especially if it's a gift.

When it comes to negotiating price ask the dealers for the "cash/no trade in" price. They may sharpen their pencil.

I would consider Kennedy as well. They are made in USA as well (except the casters) & are a decent deal when considering new.

So, Quick update guys. Today my brother got his new box. But here's the story. My SO guy had a black KRL722A brand new. He did $750 on the trade of his old box. After everything was said and done...I only paid $2,650 for the unit in itself. Then...SO guy said for me to come "take a look at something" in his shop where he stores his truck. So I obliged and to my dismay sitting in front of me was ANOTHER KRL722A in black with extreme green drawers. It was a repo and the guy NEVER used it. The box came with Tool Control Foam that was uncut for EVERY drawer, as well as the "nicer" casters, a side locker and stainless top. Total cost of that box....2500 and then my trade of 1k bring the cost of that box down to...1500 bucks.

So needless to say my brother is REALLY happy as I...now that I have my DREAM box. I'll take pics when I get them both loaded into the shop tomorrow.

Quick story.

The brother I am speaking of (i am the youngest of 10) has ALWAYS been there for me. In good times and bad. He would do ANYTHING to make me happy as I would do him the same favor. We Co-own our audio shop together and to give thanks for all the things he's ever done for me. He's being a "tight ***" about money and his "morale" is a little on the low side. I keep hearing him say he NEEDS a bigger box which was VERY true. The thing was FULL. He was also saying he needed to get re-organized in his tool space and NOW will be the time to do it. Shhh Don't tell him but a side locker and Riser will be here next week for his

Also, I got him a cover, some "organizational" stuff like wrench racks, socket racks, prybar hangers, control foam....the whole deal basically. He will be VERY oraganized now.
