Cornwell IMO does make a nice box. Before I got my current Snappy box I had an older Cornwell Brute top & bottom box but ran out of room quickly and ended up trading it in. Given the competition out there on CL, I don't think offering $2400 for it is a bad deal. Especially if it is like he say's still in New condition.

I am not too familiar with the boxes on strictlytoolbox.com although for the price of what you get for feature sets doesn't sound bad. The box you did list though says all colors are on backorder so you may be waiting a while.

Have you actually looked at the Cornwell box yet?

I notice that the Tool Vault one is almost 300 lbs heavier. Not sure if that means its better but seems like it would be made out of heavier gauge steel.

Go with the Cornwell being its a name brand if a slide or caster gets busted you can just have it replaced off the truck I have no experience with it but looks to be good quality.

i would say cornwell due to it being a name iv heard before. i have never used one before or seen one in the garages i have been in. you do get what you pay for. id see how low the dude on craigslist will go.

I'd say if you can get the Cornwell for $2400 then I think you did good. That is if indeed the box he is selling is what is pictured which does look to be in excellent new condition. I have come across, more often than not, people selling boxes or whatever tool for that matter, posting pictures of nicer units and then feeding me some **** about "oh I didn't have a camera to take pictures" or "I wasn't home to take a picture of it when I posted it". Then when you get there to see it it's a POS. Hopefully its the real deal.

Ask him first what he is willing to let it go for and then wheel and deal. Maybe even see what he wants for trade if that is an option to you. Again it appears to be a nice box that should serve you well. Good luck.

He's willing to let it go for $2200. My only concern is how surprisingly light it is for a 75" box.

While I am not 100% familiar with the latest Cornwell line of boxes, other than what I remember of my old retired "Brute" box, I would say 502lbs. for a box of that caliber is not bad.

I am however familiar with the Snappy Classic series boxes which is what I currently use now and granted they are not the heavy duty KRL or Epiq boxes they are still a great box. I have had mine now for about 3 years and so far have no regrets.

Here is the KRA2423 in red which I think compares to that Cornwell box...

Again, I have no regrets on the Classic boxes for being a entry to medium duty box and if you can get that Cornwell for $2200 out the door then I would say you made out good. :beer:

I will admit, after reading the specs on those Elite boxes they do look fairly impressive. Plus with money left over to keep the fridge stocked. Sounds like a win-win deal there...

Both of those boxes are only 24'' deep, and the Cornwell is only 40'' high.

I'd pass on both of them. You need more box.

Cornwell has waterloo make thier boxes in mexico. I think iv heard it on here but they dont stand behind their boxes and only offer a year warranty. Might want to check into that or atleast I would before buying. Nice looking box for 2200 though.

I spoke to Shannon Monday regarding the tool vault. Strictly took the old Montezuma and applied there name to it and changed the finish from textured to semi gloss, it is essentially the old Montezuma from a couple years back. Cornwell makes a good box in my opinion however there drawers to me see deep and bulky and don't offer a fair amount of space.

Shannon told me that they seldom have any warranty issues with any of there boxes they sell, an occasional slide. I wouldn't be afraid of the tool vault. Although I'm personally going to buy either a 72x30 extreme or 72x30 tool vault. Both are great boxes with great reviews at great prices.

Me personally...I'd go with the cornwell. Those deep drawers may come in handy later. I know I wish I'd thought of that before getting my current roll cab.

Either way you go, just make sure you are happy with your decision, and remind yourself of why you went that way later on if you start second guessing.

Ultimately you're the guy you have to please.

I'm really lovin my Tool Vault boxes. The quality vs prices ratio on these is very good. Nearly, if not just as sturdy as my old Matco and not even in the same class as my old Craftsman boxes. Much better. I can't imagine how sturdy the extreme version must be.

Thanks, no thread. Don't want to hijack this thread or get it off track. Just pointing out I do have some knowledge of Tool Vault boxes now and believe they are good choice. I've never had a Cornwell box so I can't compare. But I have customers who have Cornwell and have not heard anything negative.

More than likely i'm picking up the Cornwell box this evening. I did read some negative comments regarding getting replacement parts like slides. But I really like this box so I think I may take my chances. It'd be nice if I could find the drawer dimensions. Cornwell really needs to work on their website. I appreciate everyones opinions.
