I prefer these ratchets to the snap on equivalent because it's 120 teeth and smooth as silk. I've been very rough on the 1/4" ratchet and it still works like new. It gets anything out and the handle is the perfect length. IMO

I'll second this. I bought the Gearwrench 1/4" and 3/8" ratchet set from amazon and they are my new go-to's:D

Guessing that OP you are in Europe ???

Update Profile with Country / State / City.

You'll get best advice with a location.

Likely lots of European brands to compete with Snappy. ;)

ive found my most used ratchet is my 1/4 line up in my snap on tflh72
im a hard handle fan, but they have it in the soft grip. you can tighten the screw to where it barely flexes or gets sloppy. i adjust it depending on what im doing.

I don't use 1/4 often...but I do enjoy my T72 and roto head Snappy's. I probably use my roto the most. That said, I'm going to pick up those GW 120's for my Jeep bag.

Dual pawl setup gives you that and its not ********, it works really well. I bought it as a back up ratchet and its now my primary ratchet. I for one want to get the rest of the ratchets to complete the set. And I work on cars for a living and have found that the 120xp comes in handy time and time again.

Back to the OP, yes get yourself the Gearwrench 120xp ratchet! Well worth the money!

power steering high pressure lines/hoses on Nissan murano (upper hose mount), Toyota v6 tune ups (upper intake brackets). sometimes you dont have the room to get the swing you need on a lesser ratchet. I didn't get paid to write that review. I just like the ratchets.

I fix all kinds of cars and trucks with very limited access. anything to make my job easier and faster becomes a favorite tool. Its not a marketing gimmick you can test it yourself it really does only have a 3* swing there is a measurement device built into the packaging when you buy the ratchets singularly.

length is good, price is good, 3* swing arc, flex head, durable so far, easy to exchange if needed. what reason is there not to like it? It's my favorite never said it was the best there is.

try it yourself they wont break the bank. here is a nice set on AMAZON

Although some reckon it's safe, I've never been convinced that breaking loose a fastener with a ratchet is a good idea, especially a 1/4 inch drive ratchet!

I reckon the Stahlwille 415 QR is basically a good tool, so first priority for me would be a repair kit ( to get back to where you were) and a 1/4 inch breaker bar (( to ensure you don't have the same problem again!

As for replacements, well the Snap On's are superb, all of 'em! I'm even warming to the soft grip versions! The only factor against 'em, especially in Europe, is the price! If you decide to go this route, wait till one comes avsilable on special!

For a 'wild card' try KoKen! Very tough, nice and smooth, and available with a choice of handles! Much cheaper than €120 too!

Snap On THLF72 > all other 1/4 drive ratchets. I have 4, 2 I've converted to 3/8 drive and keep 1 of each 3/8 and 1/4 at home and at work.

I'll give in that it's only been less then a hand full of times the low swing arc made my day. But the smoothness and the fact that it lands where you want it everytime makes both the GW 1/4" ratchets I now use daily my go to's as well.

Get the Bahco version of the T72. It's the same ratcheting mechanism as the Snap-On, but the handle is made in Spain. And it costs 1/4th the money.

Another vote for the GearWrench ratchet...

If you want 120 teeth, you'll have to forego the padded grip...

GW Cushion Grip 1/4" Drive Ratchet #81007F has 84 teeth...

GW 1/4"Drive 120XP ratchet #81011P has 120 teeth...

GW 1/4" Drive Flex Head Ratchet #81012P has 120 teeth...

For your budget, you should be able to buy all three...

Buy used Gearwrench, 84T models sell for next to nothing on eBay. No re-sale value on Gearwrench but that can help if you don't mind used or like new. Probably around $15 used.

looks like the gearwrench has a lot of fans, is it rly that good? im looking for a ratchet that will last atleast 5 years..i like the design of the gearwrench, flexhead is a nice extra :) and ye i should buy a breaker bar next time.,
how reliable and strong is the gearwrench 84 tooth, i think the handle of the 120xp is a bit too long...
im about to start on a turbo miata build, dont want it to fail middle of the project..

Look at hazet fine tooth are very nice

Or snap on round head with hard handle (if available near you)

Cornwell is nice but there grips are too rubbery imo

My personal favorite is Matco locking flex ratchet with chrome handle (I do not like current Matco handles) the older solid ones are better

The snappy has the smallest head of any 1/4 ratchets I have. Prob have 20 different ones. I don't have any koken...and I seem to remember a member doing a comparison. It may be smaller

I absolutely love my Snap On ratchets. I have both the regular handle and comfort grip. I'm kind of partial to the comfort grips.

The comfort grip is available in the 3/8 and 1/4 set. I have it and the 3/8 is very, very good with a long handle and very smooth action but the star of the show is the 1/4. Excellent set. Here's a link -
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BTEXUY4/?tag=atomicindus08-20

The comfort grip is also available in the 1/4 flex individually under part no. 81009P for $37.26 if you highlight and hit that box on the above link.

For 3/8 my new goto is the Armstrong 88 tooth locking flex, a true locking flex that doesn't slip. In 1/4 flex, I don't think locking is more important than detent since the torque applied is lower (with regard to wrist snap).

Merry Christmas to all.

I have a snappy t72 and all of the HF pro 1/4 drive stuff 72 tooth as well. I guess I consider them fine enough. I've never really run into a clearance issue were 1-2* has been a deal breaker. Thanks for all the responses :D

Might want to check on that maybe these new ratchets are, but most of the gearwrench stuff was moved to China  it's one of the main reasons I never jumped on the gear wrench band wagon...

I have the HF 72 tooth 1/2 drive It's nice.... My Co worker had the SO 72 tooth flex head, it's nice but. I I prefer my 120xp. I have the craftsman 84t USA made ratchets in 3/8" and 1/2" they used to be my favorite until I got the 120xp..

I'm pretty sure all the GW stuff I have is made in Taiwan not China. I can check I may still have the packaging. BTW i had to warranty the Craftsman USA made 3/8" ratchet 2 times already.

My 120 Tooth Flex head GearWrench ratchets are made in Taiwan...

As were all my sockets...

Got six Tekton ratchets for Christmas, and they were all made in Taiwan, too...

All ten of my "Furrin" ratchets are light years better than the RP Craftsman they're replacing...

some of their ratchets are still taiwan, and a lot of old stock is, not saying you cant find it if you look, but a store that has a good turnaround on gearwrench brand is mostly going to be made in china.

Im an industrial mechanic for a linseed oil plant, we contract through fastenal, tools are paid for by company, to save money, instead of buying us armstrong we get a lot of gearwrench now, i stand by them... this place destroys stuff, i broke a 3/4 snap on breaker bar tapping, yes tapping a 46mm bolt hole... i finished with a 1/2 84 tooth gearwrench ratchet and a 4 foot pipe, that was almost 2 years ago still use it... ive broken a few ratchets since then (SK, Snapon, Rock River, and Pro Grade)... gearwrench is no joke for the money, i just wish they were made in america
