I need to find a Cummins Diesel Injector puller. I've found plenty for the 94-98 12 Valves, and 98.5-02 24v's, but i need one for a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 24v and Common Rail.

I know it exists. Shopkey says two tools are required to replace the injectors on these trucks besides hand tools.

1. High pressure connector removal tool # 9015
2. Special Tool for pulling injector # 9010

They say you need it to remove the injector without damaging it.

I need to get this truck back on the road. Any ideas?

I have no idea. Dodge dealer said that # 1 cylinder is running at 70% at WOT, and not working at all at idle. The truck runs like ****, bogs down and idles rough. They also said injector 2 is weak. I read its common on these around 50k, and this one is just a bit over 55k.

So i need to replace 2 injectors, and they are on national backorder @ $ 670 a piece. I found a whole set of used ones though, but i need the tool to pull them i think.

I havn't pulled them yet.

Holy ****. $670/EACH? Why so expensive?

Now I know why diesels cost so much more.

I figured you'd chime in here.

But under application it lists that one for the 98-02 24 Valve Cummins... which has these kind of injectors

Mine has these

So i don't know how that tool with the bolt/rod would work with those.

I thought Dodge diesels had a longer powertrain warranty than that. :headscrat

That doesn't apply to salvage / reconstructed vehicles. Its got a warranty block, which i still dont understand.

What difference does it make if the vehicle was in an accident even if the engine was never even touched? It should still be under warranty, but thats not the case.

Yea, but $670 each?

Its the dealer *cough stealer.... what do you expect. Its like going to the BMW dealer and paying $ 20 for a gallon of antifreeze. Or like going to the Bentley dealer and paying $ 8.50 per quart of Mobil 1 that costs like $ 3.75 a quart at Walmart lol.

Lol... heres how i know how much oil is at that place (that thing took like 13 quarts)

I already paid them $ 250 to tell my its got a bad injector, im not going to pay them anymore. :lol_hitti I dont know how it took the tech 3 hours to to pull it apart and put it back together. I pulled 2 trucks apart in 30 minutes.

I've pulled mine from a 24v with no special tools.
Do you really need a special tool? Looking at the service manual doesn't look like it is really necessary.

Fortunately, I've haven't felt the need to replace the injectors in my CR CTD.

OUCH! I thought the $400 for a set of eight was bad for my 6.5... And I cannot believe that Cummins injectors are only supposed to last 50K miles... I've got 132K on my 6.5 and it doesn't have any major problems - but the injectors are showing signs of running rough.

For best results, you want to replace all of them at once and have them flow matched...

what is wrong with the injectors ? hopelessly clogged ? too much biodiesel ?

Bio-Diesel does not clog injectors. The **** in your tank, and lines that it disolves clogs the injectors.

Bio-Diesel doesn't gel any faster than than dino #2.

Uneducated people that brodcast rumors and missinformation are what is wrong with America and why fuel prices are what they are.

I know that Cummins is the best out there as far as diesels in pickups but I can't say anything bad about powerstrokes. My dad has owned several along with other people I know and haven't had any problems. Some of them have high mileage and the only thing done to them is regular maintenance.

I have read where the 6.0's had alot of problems but nobody I know had any of those issues. They may have just been lucky.:)

I never pulled the injectors on my CR or anyone elses but I have changed a couple sets on 2nd gen 24 valves and used a brake spoon to pop the injectors out. Don't know if that will work with the CR or not.

Do PowerStrokes have this same problem?

Hardly.

My PSD has over 200k on factory installed injectors. Not until this winter did I notice any problems. Ive got a couple of "lazy" injectors that will not fire for a few minutes if I dont plug the truck in for the night.

They dont require a fancy tool, nor do they cost so much. $1200 for a set gets you a nice set of aftermarket injectors.

I have worked on the common rail B-series engines and I even changed the injectors just like you have and I don't remember using a special tool at all let alone a puller. Now I just changed injectors on a 12v B and those do require a puller but yours are just held in by a couple 12 or 13 mm bolts I think and then they should wiggle right out. It has been awhile but I think that is the deal.

diesel is an expensive game , not worth it to me man , the dodge runs ok but doesn't feel that strong ,missing 2 cylinders , the 6.0 ford sucked , 7.3 navistar powerstroke was good not sure how the 6.4 twin turbo is , ford and chrysler auto trannies cannot hold a candle to the allison , the duramax makes the most power and costs the most , but we had horrible injector failures due to idiots not changing the fuel filters and probably running french fry grease , hot tar and home heating oil in the fuel tank . Injectors on a duramax **** to change , pay crappy , and all the egr problems and soot sensors we got now , it is refreshing to drive a 5.3 or 6.2 or 8.1 gas engines , making effortless power and not all the silly sensetivities of the diesel

The guy I work with has an 06 Chevy 2500 8.1 allison. Both of us pulling the same load, dump trailer loaded to 14k pounds (checked at scales) he gets 4-6 mpg while I get 10-12 and his has this funny shudder when pulling out from a stop. Two different dealers say "normal". It is all in what you want. He didn't want to pay the extra for the Duramax and now he won't talk mileage with me and gets disgusted when he has to make two fuel stops for every one of mine.
Oh and I forgot to mention the mighty 502 cu. in. V8 can't keep up with a little 360 cu. in. 6 cylinder runnin up a hill.
