I’m looking to buy a gift for a buddy of mine, I would like to get him a tool kit or set that has 3/8 ratchet with a small variety of sockets along with box wrenches in the same blow mold case. It does not need to be an expensive nor premium set. I want it to be compact so he can take it with him in his jeep. I am not sure what his tools are at home but they are most likely craftsman or husky and he has a larger set. His car seems to be breaking down more often and I would like to have him have tools on hand but not take up a lot of room in the car.

Any ideas? Costco used to have a basic set I think by Dewalt but they don’t carry it anymore.

Price range? Go on Amazon and look at the tool sets, that'll give you an idea of what's available and at what price.

A few years back I picked up three sets at Harbor Freight, $29 per set. Just some basic tools to keep in the back of my pickup. I gave the other two sets away as Christmas gifts.

Sam’s Club has a Channellock brand set that has sockets, wrenches and a few ratchets and screwdriver bits in it if I remember correctly.

This might give you more options. Find a socket set within your price range/needs. Then buy a loose wrench set that meet the same needs. Then buy one of these for the wrenches.

That's how I carry my vehicle sets. Those craftsmen boxes are the bomb. I've got about 8 of them set up as mini toolboxes. They also make a larger one, but not sure if it's still available.

If space is a serious issue in a Jeep(and I guess it is since you mentioned it) You'll always be better off packing a steel toolbox yourself than getting a blowmolded plastic box. Put the wrenches in a tool roll and the sockets on rails, and it will still be handy, but take up half the space. Zoro has Proto rails the cost about the same as Harbor Freight but are tremendously better.
If you insist on plastic, the Craftsman Truck Box, especially the small 17" one, fits under seats and holds quite a bit. I've got 45 pieces stuffed into mine.

***Yankee beat me to the punch. The 22" version of the truck box won't fit under most seats. but sure holds a lot in a little space. Yes I have both; they have their uses. In fact, Yankee's link led to a good enough deal I ordered two more!

Part number 004050 I believe.

How much would you want for that kit? It would be perfect for my work kit when I go back to work. I am an electrician and have been off for a while, first for family, then Corona virus hit and have been off then entire time. Should be going back in January. I want a decent kit, but money has not been plentiful during this time. Let me know please.

It sounds like you need time travel! "Pace" and the "Warehouse Club" they used to carry those things by "AllTrade" They used to sell all kinds of everything kits for the prices one now affiliates with cheap import ****. My youngest brother had a kit and I think it is still floating around in his garage some 30 yrs. later. Perhaps a search for some "Vintage " tool kits may yield some results. Harry

Northern Tool has some very decent "Klutch" brand tool kits like that.

And farm stores tend to have "good enough" kits for toting on tractors. TSC, for example, sells some fairly nice Dewalt branded kits, and they have their house brand stuff as well.

It's a good time to buy; tool kits always go on sale around Xmas.
