I've bought them from digi-key, mouser, partsexpress, etc.

Where are the good quality cable ties, the ones I'm finding fall apart after a year or so of sun exposure. Or they don't stay secure, the cheaper ones don't lock, they just pull out.

Years ago there was a company in PA, that made cable ties with a steel insert, when they locked, they stay locked. While finding that style would be nice again, it's not a must.

So Suggestions?

Go with the company that invented the Ty-Rap® (cable tie) 54 years ago:

They still use the stainless steel insert. You will have to pay a little more for them than the garbage sold at the home stores, but you get what you pay for.

The natural semi-translucent nylon color is not UV ray resistant, no matter the brand. Opaque colored ones--especially the black ones--are more resistant, and for the best UV resistance, T&B sells ties made from special UV resistant polymers.

Anything made by Panduit will be of high quality but I'm sure some more experts will know more than I do.

Black ones have better UV protection and are stronger...

I've tried natural and the black ones, even tried other colors, pink, baby blue, bright green, they all get brittle and break.

I'll try Thomas & Betts or tnb, they seem like pretty good prices for a quality product in my opinion, $54 for 1000pcs. I don't mind paying that, I find with the cheapies I go through 5 or 6 of them just trying to find one that wants to stay closed.

Seconded.

I found the UV ones on their website, they're a little more expensive, but well worth it to me. $126 for a pack of 1000, so $.126 each.

Why not use metal ones? Likely some kind of not rusting metal.

The T&B are very good if money is not a problem for you , but since I only use them for around the house I buy them on the cheap from HF and they do last for some time; and I might say for X-Mas lights they are very nice outside in the cold.

Like stainless. Well frankly, it's overkill for what I'm using it for. If I was putting dust boots on axles or something exhaust related, then the stainless would be ideal, but I'm needing something that will withstand the weather/UV rays from the sun. I'm using them to hold up signs around my property to my metal fence. Specifically, trespassers will be shot and no soliciting. We have waay too many people in our neighborhood that come around and drop off flyers.

Well personally I prefer to buy a quality item once, then have to go through multiple **** items. And quality happens to usually cost more.

How about use something that won't fail due to UV and weather. I mount a lot of things on our fences with 17ga aluminum solid wire. Comes in spools as hot wire fence wire at farm and tack supply places, Lowes and HD if you have any horse property nearby. Twist a loop of that wire with some lineman's pliers and it's good for a hundred years. Comes off any time you like with a snip of the dikes. Can't rust or get brittle in the weather. Isn't affected by UV etc.

The rest of the spool, which costs less than a large package of cable ties, makes great wire for things like hanging disc brake calipers when you have them off the spindles, picture hanger wire, temporary hold stuff out of the way while you're working on car engines, yada yada. "Folds" and coils nicely, doesn't take a set like steel or copper wire. Use it for emergency hanging your exhaust when a hanger breaks and you're in the middle of nowhere.
