In my opinion I think it is Higher quality than the Chinese craftsmans, and the TSC< and the Kobalt may be closer to it quality wise but trust me those boxes are worth every penny and there is plenty of testimonials on this site to prove it, And I have a Mac Tool box so I am not biased toward any brand, I use what gets the job done and saves me money

Have you looked at Kennedy? If you just want a top box you should easily be able to get a nice one from eBay for less than $400. Made in the USA as well.

i have i was just talking to another guy about the kennedy i have looked at the machinist boxes and cant really tell from ebay photos but them seem like very well made boxes just very shallow at just 12 inches i think i have no problem buying used, the bottom box i have is a power kraft from the 70s and its 10 times what the regular c-mans are these days

They have Machinists boxes and Mechanics boxes. The Mechanics box is probably more of what you're looking for. You won't be disappointed with a Kennedy box.

I bought a three drawer portable tool box from TSC, for chainsaw stuff. The instruction sheet was printed inthe same format as the older C-man stuff. My guess would be that Waterloo was making the TSC stuff.

BTW, the box was exactly the same as the C-man box but green and 10 bucks cheaper.

I was at TS the other day and noticed the boxes. Felt very flimsy and cheap to me. You will be much happier with the waterloo.

one more vote for the harbor frieght 13 drawer bottom chest. a good price at $359 on sale and good quality for what it is. i painted mine to match my workbench, so that covered the crinkle finish that comes on it. otherwise that finish is a pain to keep clean.

if you took the names off the box, they not much difference, if fact craftmans are waterloo brand, and I would bet others are too.

snap on, mac, etc $5000 boxes. dont really see much difference from other brand, Be nice to have one but all you paying for is name.

harbor freight, i myself on the orange box, dont like the lay out but nothing wrong with the box. they have a new red one that i really like. its not the one that always on sale but a new model they got like a month ago.

For a weekend warrior, the 26" Harbor Freight toolbox is hard to beat (especially with the $350 sale price). If I was in the market for a toolbox, I would purchase the HF one... I just wish they sold the bottom separately.

Craigs and ebay have lots of good Snap mac etc. used at good prices. Lots of guys are out of work and selling good stuff. I would rather have a quality used box than a new piece of junk.
