I'll bet that the same company made the boxes for both MAC and MATCO back in that era. The only difference I see is the drawer handles being different styles between the brands. On my MATCO Linemaster setup from 1979, each box has the model number and date stamped into the metal backside panel on the lower left hand end, as you are looking at the rear of it.

It was stamped into the metal and then they painted the boxes. So there is not much obvious contrast, and it is kinda easy to not notice that it is even there.

Perhaps give that area another look ?

I don't know model number but I had two of those bottom cabinets. Loved them. Definitely mid to late 80s. I bought them from a Snap on dealer who took them in on a trade. Believe he charged me $500 each, which was a deal even back then.

Pic Is from about 2017, so 30 years later and still looking and working good. I wish I never sold them. At one point I had them attached with a bracket kit sold by MAC that made them into a larger (approx 52") cabinet.

The Craftsman was my first box, late 70s or early 80s. Then the Snap on was second box mid 80s followed by the two macs on bottom then the middle MAC. I've had a lot of different boxes but those MACs were my favorite aside from limited width.

I bought the same combo as the op in the mid 80's. I think I paid $2,000 or so brand new off the Mac truck.

It was a kit sold by MAC the bottom plates were very heavy gauge steel and replaced the casters. There was also a piece that connected the 2 cabinets at the top but that was much lighter gauge steel.

I have that exact bottom box, bought it off the tool truck brand new in 1990. Don't recall what it cost, but I am sure it was way more than I could afford at the time.
