The painters removed these off of the house. I'd like to know as much about them as I can.

The glass is solid 1 1/4" Dia X 5 3/8", made in USA by PYREX Patent number 170006 - info which is all formed in the glass. The attaching base is solid brass (1 3/4" x 3" x 5/8 H). The cap is 1"H with a 1/2'deep screw hole, and appears to be solid brass (scratched it) with some kind of black powder coating.

Seems to me a bit larger than the old electric insulators around the house. Neighbor tells me the guy who had the house before 'might' have operated a ham radio but wasn't sure. Any thoughts on what they were used for?

US patent 170006 is for a curtain roller (retractor). Looks like you're missing the end w/ the little spring motor, like a window shade uses.
