help me identify these pliers from 1880

Hey Folks,

Recently just inherited my Grandfathers Kennedy Tool box with various assorted tools.

Found this funky pair of pliers and they were completely covered in rust. Once I started cleaning off the rust I found PATD April 27 1880.

Any idea what they are for?

Hahahaha just did a search on Patd April 27 1880. Foudn a bunch on Ebay, they are honest to goodness Hog Nose Pliers
