Hello,
I have a 3-1/2" RECORD bench vise that I got in a pawn shop in Toronto and carried it home in my carry-on on a flight. All in all it is a good vise that serves me well.

However, I want a bigger bench vise. I want something with 6 inch of opening or more. So I am beginning to read here and look at the local classifieds.

As seems to be the case after landing on this site, I will begin my learning curve of thewilton/yost/columbian/superior/rock island that are in my local craigslist and whatever is there at the moment.

But this stuck out as an oddball. It only opens to 5" so it is out. At an asking price of $35 I am sure it would work fine. So what is this? First I thought it said CTI or CJI or something. Now I think it might be a Kanji or Hangul character. Any ideas?

I thought so. Thanks for the replies.
I know I will not find a deal like the $5 I paid for the Record Vise.

You might not find another deal. Or you might. I've snagged a few good vises for under $20. Until I recently splurged on a Prentiss 6" swivel jaw/swivel base, the most I had personally paid for a vise was $40 (another Prentiss swivel jaw/base, that one 4.5" jaw). I got 2 Reed 204-1/2 for $10 and $20 on separate occasions. Starrett 923 for $10. Deals are out there but you need patience, and some luck never hurts, lol.

Patience is the key. Scouring FB, Craigslist, Offerup and Letgo weekly sure doesn't hurt though.

I've only been a vise collector for a bit over a year now and I've bought 15 vintage American vises. Haven't paid more than $80 for one yet and I'm pretty confident my best score was my Wilton 600 I got for $50.
