We are finishing up the outside of our new garage addition and I'm trying to figure out the lighting.

The Garage is 20wide x 36 deep. Two 8x7 doors on the front and one 8x7 door on the back. The front will be used primarily for parking and will eventually get a parking lift on the right side. The back left side will have my two post lift.
The front is cathedral ceilings and the back ceiling follows the roofline to allow for the lift.
I have a detached garage that will be used for most of the major work, but my two post lift is too tall, so it will be going up front. I was not going to go overboard with the lighting other than by the two post lift.

I was looking at recessed light cans. Two over each bay in the front and a set of four over the lift. I'm also wiring in retractable drop lights, and a swing out dock light near the back door.

Any ideas, or pictures of what you have would be great.

You can get an idea from this how the front is framed. I'm using spray foam insulation and will have the full height open.

Here's the back roofline.

Not sure why everyone wants to use can lights. Its a garage. I assume from seeing the big compressor, its a working garage, even if only light work. Put some decent lighting in there. Most universal, workable, useful lighting is some quality 4 ft T8 fixtures. Can lights focus the lighting in certain spots. If you are trying to show off some small feature in a room or store, than a can light is OK, but to attempt to use them for anything more is probably a waste of money and wire. My two cents worth.

Thanks Charles. But only the back left corner will be used for any maintenance work. I have a detached garage for all the major work.

Charles is right when it comes to work spaces, flourescent is the way to go.Pot lights will look better if this is more a show/parking garage than a working shop.I think if you double the amount that you are considering, it will give a decent amount of light.Sloped pot lights are available, although a bit pricey, they may work better for you.It will be difficult to add more lights in your vaulted ceilings later,it is easier to install more and use dimmers or smaller bulbs to cut the light output if necessary.A ceiling fan up at the peak would be a good idea too,a bit of circulation will help with the heating and cooling.

Hard10, How about starting your own thread of your garage with pics of your new build inside and during construction? Looks like a neat garage!
