The bench vise at our local charity work shop was broken this week. Any one have an Allied 5" moveable jaw?

Or would someone be interested in welding this one as a repair project? No need to return it. We'll get another vise. I see many youtube videos on restoring bench vises and this could be a candidate for such a video/repair project.

weighs about 45 pounds.

IDK if you saw this one Larry, I got it on Facebook.
But it looks at least to be heavier duty.
Any experience on this one? (mine is the red one)
I have no experience with those. Again an imported vise with unknown strength.

Looks like we are reviving another old thread. Common problem though. Bench vises are not designed for blacksmithing work or using as a press. That’s what usually breaks them. The old vises made in the USA by companies like Reed, Rock Island, Hollands, Athol, and others are not as easily broken but still won’t withstand extreme abuse. If you need to pound on a vise, get a blacksmith vise with a post going down to the ground. Those are forged and won’t crack like cast iron. If you need to press bearings etc., get a press.
