I have got the worlds most mischievous baby girl. Into EVERYTHING. Most of the house is babyproofed, but I'm having an issue in the bonus room (where we spend a good bit of our time). The room is at the top of the stairs, and I don't trust a baby gate set up normally if she is going to be trying to lean on it and/or pull it down.

Currently I have a baby gate spread wider than the opening, forced against the wall by a small recliner we bought for my older daughter. This was fine for a while, but now the baby has figured out how to pull the pinned baby gate to the side if the chair gets pulled out even the slightest little bit.

I'm thinking of making a simple 1/2" plywood door. Hinged on one side, with a latch on the other to keep her upstairs. Just can't decide what type of latch would work best.

See photo below for an idea of what I'm thinking, then suggest a latch that I could get from Lowe's that would do the job.
