help me pick out some wera

I want to pick up a good set of screwdrivers, torx drivers and possibly some hex drivers. the whole hex on the shaft for use with a wrench is an idea that i like. I also cant spend more than a hundred bucks for everything, unless it is really worth it to wait, i am a weekend wrencher. I use the wiha soft finish electrical screwdrivers at work and they are really great but it seems as though wera has a better selection for less money on the net. What series should i be getting and is the 300 chiseldriver different than the 900 chiseldriver series. i dont get difference except for the price on amazon. whats the best place to buy wera's? Also how bad is the classic $13 ones. i have the old black handled craftsman pros right now and im looking for something better.

imho, Wera does not have a better selection that Wiha in the US.

What do you mean 300 chiseldriver? I thought that the 900 series are the chisel drivers.

Anyhow, unless I am mistaken, the 900 series have a strike cap along with hex blades as well as hex bolster, while the 300 series with bolsters have the normal round blades and no striking cap.

You can also mix and match between Wiha and Wera. You may also want to give PB Swiss a try, although the prices aren't as good as they used to be.

I buy most of my Wiha and Wera via Small Parts/Amazon, and a few odd sizes through MSC when they have deals.

I'll whip out the $13 classics to see how they feel.

Edit: Classic series is somewhat ordinary. The handles are hard and smooth - I don't like it that much. The Comfort series is a bit better, but a little too soft. The 300 series is juuust right.

Edit2: If you cannot afford a 300 set, go for a set of Wiha's with the 3K handles.

Chad's Toolbox is another place to check for prices on either Wera or Wiha. I have read some negative comments about them on this board, but I dealt with them a couple months ago and was very happy with the experience. Maybe they're inconsistent or maybe they're getting better

Stuey already pointed out the differences, the "chiseldriver" is the series 900 (yellow/black handle).


The all black "Kraftform Classic" model has a 1-component plastic handle, and is only available with round blade.

The green/black/green "Kraftform Comfort" has a 2-Component handle (green plastic, black "rubber"), the blade is available in round as well as hex version with hex bolster (slotted + PH)

The "Kraftform Plus - Series 300" black (plastic) handle with green (rubber) inserts has a 3-component handle with a core of hard plastic. Some blades are equipped with a "Lasertip" tip. The blades are available in round and hex (ballhead hexagon driver) with hex bolster (slotted, PH + PZ)

I purchased a 6 piece kit of the 300 series Wera laser tip drivers and added a longer shaft #2 Phillips. These are on a rack above my workbench, I grab for these when I have a rusted screw or something that is really tight and giving me a hard time.

thanks guys for all you comments suggestions, keep them coming, im looking up prices and deciding right now but im lost. price verses quality, i use the wiha at work but i dont know how the handles would hold up with grease and dirt, i work with electronics and my tools stay clean.

I have the Chiseldrivers (900's) and they have been great. I ordered mine through Chad's because I wanted some additional sizes. The standard set doesn't have the larger common sizes.

The Yellow doesn't stay pretty for long. It doesn't come off but the grease and grime does seem to stain it a little. I spray a little WD on them and they clean up fine.

I have a few Snap ons also but I tend to grab the Wera's first. I like the handles better, especially better than the new Snap ons. The fit as well as the Snap-ons and are I do not see any tip wear and I have been using them a lot.
