I do mostly auto (suspension) work and need a good impact that can rival a pneumatic impact wrench as far as torque figures goes. i have a few in mind i will mention below, im looking for the best quality as well as longevity & warranty i need a tool that will stand up to frequent use. i dont know what the bare minimum torque you need in the auto service industry but i will figure nothing under 400 ft lbs.

Here is the Impacts im looking at with the milwaukee's in my top spot right now based of good reviews and a 5 year warranty! i am open to any suggestions and reccomendations. which would you pick? i would like to keep my budget in the $400 range
Milwaukee 2763-22 M18 FUEL 700 FT/LBS :D

Milwaukee 2662-82 18V 450 FT/LBS

Ingersoll Rand W7150-K1 780 FT/LBS downside is only 1 year warranty

I think you would be pleasently surprised by the amount of torque you can get out of an 18V 1/2" drive impact. I can't see your links so I'm not really sure what the specs are of the ones you are looking at. I have just a cheap craftsman one. It keeps up with the milwaukee one we have at work just fine and dandy and is quite a bit lighter. Keep in mind, I use mine on the weekends....not 40-60hrs a week....... Rarely do I have an issue getting something off....If i do, it needs to be cut off.

Check out a Bosch IWHT. I would compare weights. Some of these new guns are super heavy. I think there is an advantage to a light weight, quiet, low vibration gun. I think the Snap On (6875) and Bosch guns are related. They are both light, quiet and smooth running.

And the torque ratings may be misleading. A good gun with a good LI battery should continue to produce a good amount of torque until the battery is almost spent. Some guns may only achieve their advertised torque with freshly charged batteries. Seems to me, any of these guns produce sufficient torque to handle most passenger car and light truck hardware.

Since I use Dewalt for my Door & hardware installation, I bought a Dewalt DC820 new on ebay
for $85.My son is a Drift racer who invites his buddies to use my tire change equipment and the wrench has worked flawlessly for me and them, who borrow it for the track. It is small compact 1/2" and very light and managable.

I just recently got the Ingersol for work. My portable compressor died, they wouldn't approve to get it fixed or to replace so I bought it. I used it all of last week to service commercial grade lawn equipment. The blades were always a $itch to get off even with air, not with that thing!! Just a blip of the trigger and they're off! This is my first experience with a newer style cordless impact and I'm sold! I used it all week plus played with it during the weekends (picked it up Friday before last) and I'm still on the first battery without charging it. Like I said just flippin' awesome!

I have the w7150 and 2654-22ct from Milwaukee. I love them both but grab the Milwaukee more often. It does suspension, wheels, underhood stuff. It's easier to maneuver than the w7150. The w7150 isn't bad one handed but it's definitely not something you'd wanna do an engine rebuild with. It was my only gun for over a year and it did what I needed. The trigger is easy to use so it's not all torque in one shot.

I have the IR in 1/2 and 3/8th's. Ive used ALOT of impacts and they are hands down untouchable. The 1/2 inch actually has 1100ft/lb of torque when your removing a bolt. Its a freaking beast. I dont mean this to sound like a jerk but I honestly believe anyone who says anything besides the IR has never used one. Once youve used one you know there just isnt anything out there right now that compares to it.

I do what you are explaining. I do mostly automotive front end work. On monday I did a chevy K1500, lower ball joints, upper control arms, all four tie rod ends, torsion lift keys, pitman arm, rear lift blocks, and all four shocks. I have the milwalkee fuel. I had last charged it friday morning. It did the whole job on that charge and still had half life left. I have ran into a situation that it seems to not do as well as my air impact. On bigger bolts 21 mm head size that need a swivel impact socket.......the m18 sometimes wont do it, and my air gun will. Or with 3 stacked extentions......it seems that when you put a swivel or multiple extentions on the m18 loses more power than my ir 2135. With a regular socket it will twist off studs when the nut wont come off.......just like my air gun. That said, I also run into this with my air gun. But since I am testing the m18........I always try the air if electric wont take it off. I have not run into a bolt yet that my air gun wont get off since going electric.
That said............I LOVE my m18 fuel impact! The only time I use air at all anymore is my air hammer. I love no air hose! I think I have had it for a month, and I have only used my air gun 4 times. I also got a m12 3/8 fuel impact and have not touched my 2115 since. Now the m12 is no competion for the 2115, but it is handy. I dont run into areas that the bigger size of the m18 has kept me from using it. But I am under the car most of the time.
I hear the ir electric is a fine gun too. I was already into m18 a little, so I stayed red because of it. The power is serious......darn near air gun power. I didnt think it would be as close as it is.

Hi everyone, my first post here. I'm glad I found this board. I'm in the same boat as you OP. Can't decide between the fuel or the IR, but I'm leaning towards the IR as a dedicated impact wrench for automotive use, they have a deal right now where you get a free battery on their kits. I'm a Bosch fan in terms of drills and saws etc so I'm not looking into the other m18 line, although I must say that the Fuel lineup is impressive.

I have the IR w7150, first one in less than a year started having the anvil stop not work, IR sent me a brand new gun! Awesome! Fast forward to this year anvil stop started not working, then it started working on and off and I figured if this is the only problem I can deal with that for a while. But then two days ago it stopped working. If I bang on the battery it will some times work for a moment, but a guy I worked with said sparks shot out of the vent on the side. So it is put to the side and I got to find time to get it repaired. Sigh two in less than two years, when this thing works it's so great, I use it everyday for everything. On a side note I am waiting for my replacement snap on CT7850 as well so no one is perfect. So now I have no cordless 1/2 gun, it doesn't feel right. :dunno:

Milwaukee Fuel. Fantastic tools, and warranty. And the whole line up of M18 gives you a lot of options down the road.

I've got the 3/8". Hands down my favourite tool in my box. Used for everything from 10mm bolts holding fan shrouds to 21mm shock absorber mounts.

Next for me will be the 1/2". I want more jam for when I have swivels or long extensions involved. As well as I don't want to wear the 3/8" out doing tires.

I look at specs, but have been disappointed at times. Try testing them if you can, co workers, in store, or call the local rep. Every new generation of rechargeables keep getting better, leaps and bounds from 5 or 10 years ago. I have no IR to speak of, I have Milwaukee and they are great, but so are my Makita.

What’s most important to you? Power & performance? I am sure price has a factor, if it is a close call between a couple, think long term. Does it fit in your hands well or is it big or small, heavy or light. If something goes wrong in 6-12 months, easy to get serviced or a PIA.

Last thing is what other tools use the system, can be very important to some people (do you want 7 different charging systems & batteries cluttering your shop?).

Does anyone know what retailer sells the W7150? Want to see one in person and see how it feels in the hand.

I have the 2763-22 and have used it daily for the last 3 months at work. It's taken apart everything I've put it to. Great tool.

Slight hijack - As a weekend wrencher, I'd like to have one of these impacts, but can't justify the cost of the Milwaukee or IR. How is the CMan? Sears has it on sale this week.

The c3 is great as well. I would suggest buying the kit and a lithium battery to go along with it. The charger you will need and extra nicad will be worth it.

If you want a smaller gun and battery cases that don't fall apart get the W7150.

Also have the C3 Lithium 1/2" from Sears. Not in the same league but it works great for changing tires and speeding work up for $200

I have only used the dewalt and the snap on and I would say the snap on is great.
I have had mine for 3 years and love it.
