Help Me Price a Lathe

I have a lathe I inherited from my Dad who decided he's gotten too old for woodworking. I have no room for it and it's a tool I honestly will never end up using, so I'm going to sell it. Problem is, it's a Craftsman 1/2HP, 12" model (wood lathe) and apparently Craftsman stopped making lathes so I can't find a price for them new to base a used price from. And there's basically none for sale on CL. What would an equivalent quality manufacturer be to Craftsman for comparison? What would you think a fair price would be?

An equivalent looks to be around $600 new. Expect less than half.

It's hard to tell without knowing a model number or what condition it's in, but Craftsman never really sold anything heavy-duty in the wood lathe category, they aimed at hobbyists. So if it was a vintage cast-iron model with all of the accessories that would come with it, it's probably reasonable to expect a couple of hundred or more in excellent condition. On the other hand, for one of the tube-bed lathes in average condition, you might be lucky to get 75 or a hundred bucks if you can even sell it.

It's a circa '93 model, in excellent condition (probably only used a handful of times). Comes with 12 pristine, uber sharp chisels (if that's the right term), a drill chuck accessory, 2 tool rests, and a 3-jaw plate clamp like you'd see on a metal lathe. I already have a buyer, just need to come up with a price. Here's a pic.

There are lots of these cheap wood lathes for sale on CL. Consider yourself lucky if you get $100 for the lathe. The chisels add some value. If the chisels are high quality, in pristine condition you might get another $50.
I gave a Crapsman wood lather to the neighbour kid. His parents hate me because of all the dust the kid is making.

Sorry to say but that is the least valuable wood lathe you can get from Cman
You might want to sell the accessory pieces as they can be used on other machines and then either sell the lathe itself cheap or donate it

I suspect the lathe would have more sentimental value than actual value. If I were you I would try very hard to find a place to store it and hang onto it.

Maybe I am far too sentimental but to me a possession like that is more valuable than the money it would bring and to be quite frank about it, in this case, it wouldn't be all that much money anyway.

I have one that I don't use, if I could bring myself to sell a tool, which isn't likely, I'd sell it for $150.00

I'd stick with the hundred bucks, which is basically the value of the lathe tools and accessories, and you're giving the lathe away as a 'bonus'. It's an OK lathe for a beginner. Some of the Craftsman HSS lathe tools are true gems, though - they can be very high quality steel and hold their edge very well.

I have the same exact lathe, I paid $150 for mine about 5 years ago. I probably paid too much, but it was local and I didn't have to travel.

I have one identical to that, it seems to work OK for the odd time I use it, but the round pipe bed-way is considered very 'low end". If you get the $150, I think you have done well.
