Help Me Price My Tool Chest

Ok so I no longer need the additional storage from my extra chests and I could also use the money. How much should I try to sell both chests for or would I be better off selling them individually?

Both have all the keys
The top is a full length ball bearing chest that as far as I can tell is in mint shape. It was used lightly and every drawer has a drawer liner. It is maybe a year and a half old.

The bottom chest is also ball bearing. I have had it maybe 4 years. The top of it is sort of scratched from the top chest but otherwise unnoticeable. It is in pretty good shape.

Let me know if my figures are way off but new I paid $250 on a large sale for the top chest so I figured $150 would sound reasonable.

The bottom chest I was thinking maybe $100 or so. So together maybe $250.

I think $175 would be hard to get. Especially if your close to a harbor freight.

I thought that harbor freight might hurt me some but the closest thing I could find from harbor freight that was comparable to what I have for sale is this setup.

Harbor freight is asking $350 plus tax so i didn't think my numbers were way out of line but maybe I am wrong.

yours is in really good shape, but from looking at my local clist and at sales, these boxes just about have to be free or full of tools. the condition of yours will help with the sale.

a similar box from home depot goes for 238.99 for the combo and the hf stack is right over 300 brand new and is really a better built box with better slides.

$200 and it's gone. $250 should get some interest and probably do it. Any more and it could be awhile.

I priced my like new Craftsman boxes at the current new sale price. They flew out of here.

In my area full size 26" tops and bottoms average for $300 a set so I wouldn't touch that for more than $150 if I was looking for that size. Depends on what the buyer is looking for though. It looks nice and clean still so try your luck, buyers always want to cut your price anyway.

^ I'd have to agree with this.

What I would do is list them together, with one price. Put in the ad that you would consider splitting them up. The top is usually a harder sell than the bottom when selling individually.

Yea list at 300 as like new then have someone offer you 175 or 200. Suckered them right in.........

The market price depends a lot on where you live. I always check my local CL, then the CL ads in the 4 larger cities that surround me. Also, if your price is on the high side (even though you think it's fair), customers will argue that they can buy a new one for marginally more.

If I had those boxes, I'd have a set of prices if they sold separately, then a price for a package deal.

Start with $250 OBO. Take any offer of $175. If you don't get any offers drop it $200 and try again.

I agree with this. Its a lot easier to drop the price then raise it in negotiations.

I had the craftsman bottom and top and then found the Mac chest. Most things have been in the Mac chest since I bought it and the craftsman top chest has been empty. I am slightly hesitant to want to sell the craftsman bottom chest because I just realized I actually have quite a bit of stuff in it. I'll see if I can sell the craftsman top on Craigslist I'll post it for $170 and go from there.
