The warranty paperwork that was with the last Maglite that I bought (12/12) expressly stated that damage caused by leaking batteries were not covered by warranty. YMMV

That is my experience as well. We had a couple at work that I wanted to send back and they said no dice...

I have several Maglites and my experience has been very good. For example, my wife has a 2D in her car, it has been through 2 sets of batteries in about 8 years, dropped, stepped on, forgotten under the seat, you name it. I have not had any issues with batteries leaking or corroding. At the risk of offending, I am not shocked at the change in policy, if the battery leaks it just doesn't seem to me to be Maglite's responsibility to give away a new flashlight. I have a lot of cheap junk products that eat batteries, corrode and become more junk than they began, it pisses me off but it is usually cheap batteries or a cheap import or I stored it poorly or failed to maintain it.

Maglites make better weapons than flashlights... for a flashlight get a multi-LED with at least 700 lumens. I got a Kobalt at Lowes that is just that, and small. Uses 3 CR123 batteries and is BRIGHT!

I have one of the Mini Mag AAA lights that the batteries swelled enough to make them very difficult to get out. After I fiddled around with it for 1/2 hour or more I removed the end plastic that holds the bulb and pushed the batteries out. Only then did I see in small print DO NOT REMOVE. Now it won't work....*****!

I don't know if they'd fix it now if I sent it in without costing the price of a new one.
