Hey guys. New here. I have this 8 horse honda motor that was given to me. Side shapt. Gear reduction. I want to make it a generator. Anybody ever built their own??
maybe a few pointers or ideas??
I don't even know where to buy parts at

Gear reduction would not work on a generator, most generator have to turn 3600 rpm to generate current at 60hz. With a step down gear reduction you are turning maybe 600 rpm. Just budget an assembled generator/motor you are not going to be able to use that one. For very limited use you might consider an inverter running off car battery/altenator until you can get a generator. It would run emergency radio etc, but would be very expensive to run a V6 or V8 motor just to run a refig etc.during a power outage.
