I have significant commercial building experience and am new to this home in north central WI. I have a garage attached to the house and a shop which is detached. In the non-winter months, there are not HVAC efforts in either area. Here are some facts:

-attached garage, slab on grade, spread footings, everything is in good condition and draining away on the exterior.
-attached garage is used a few times each day, mostly closed.
-attached garage is insulated and rocked, all surfaces
-attached garage is almost standing water on the floors' surface, no kidding
-attached garage slab temperature is 68 degrees today
-rugs and mats in attached garage are bone dry beneath

-detached shop is slab on grade, spread footings, everything is in good condition and draining away on the exterior.
-detached shop is very rarely used (meaning doors aren't open)
-detached shop is insulated and rocked, all surfaces.
-detached shop feels bone dry (for WI)
-detached shop slab temperature is 60 degrees today

so.....I am condensating. WHY? (other than slab temperature and dew point)
It seems to me that they each have similar construction types and exposures, or at least close enough to eliminate the exaggerated clinical differences.

If I read it correctly; Sounds like the humidity in the attached garage is much higher than the detached garage. It's odd as to why that slab is 8 degrees warmer.

Is there a dryer or anything else vented into the attached garage?

Is it a ranch style (one story) house? with house attic open to garage?

good one on the dryer!

the PO added the attached garage so at one point the dryer outlet was on an outside wall. there are just two of us in the house and we literally do maybe 3 loads a week combined but that might be enough to add the additional moisture.

It's a two story house, one story garage with no communication other than a gasketed man door with a second storm door.

I still may not understand the slabs temperature differential but the obvious dryer variable has got to be at least part of it.

Thanks for thinking of the obvious I was not able to.

Dave.
