I have a 24x30 insulated garage that I'm getting ready to look at heaters,I have a budget of about 1000 to do the job,I can do the install myself.I was all ready to get a mr. heater tube heater 10ft I would have to run propane as my fuel source. But I hear that they really use a lot of propane to run?I live in the northeast and it can get in the 20s though out the winter months. Can anyone that runs one of these give me some input or some other choices of heaters that you have had luck with, there just so many choices I want to make the right one...Thanks..ED

I just this week installed a Big Maxx and I am happy with it. I do not know about how much propane it uses yet. I went with the 45k btu version but I would think the 75k btu would be better for you.

No way you need 75K BTU... You dont want the heater kicking off after 30 seconds. 45K should be about right based on your size assuming decent insulation.

How good is your insulation?

Do you plan to heat as needed or full time? Leaving at 40 and bumping up to 60 when working, etc...'?

I like my radiant tube heater... but don't go too big. I have an 80K and it's way too big... I heat 1200 sq. ft. and should have bought a 60K btu unit. Sounds like a 30 to 45K btu unit would work. The radiant heaters keep everything nice and warm without drafts.... toasty.

my question is how tall are your ceilings because you dont want to cook when working in the area of the heater if you want to keep it at about 40 but have 1 to 3 hr grace period before you do projects out there you might consider electric heat you could heat that sq footage well with 12kw about 50amps if you have the service to handle it and your ceilings arn,t over 10' electric will be more even over the whole area if you go with foced air you can even install two 6kw heaters at each end to cover more area.
