help me with my new old jack

Hey guys. I got a call today from an uncle asking if I wanted some boxes of my grandpas stuff, well of course I do. So after going thru it all I now have an old craftsman belt sander and a mmystery bottle jack. There aren't any brands on it just some numbers stamped in 2 different spots. It still works, but not very well and would like to rebuild if possible. just seein if anyone knows who made it and when? Thanks for any help

Hein Werner, I believe its a 20 ton (can verify with Ram diameter). If you need a Rebuild kit give me a shout..

thanks for the reply. It still pumps up and the relief valve works, so i'm hoping i can just change the oil n maybe a new coat of paint. Im guessing the flat head screw on the front is a drain plug?

Drain plug is on the Resevoir, The flat head Valve to the Right of the release is the Working Valve.

Whats the purpose of the "working valve"? i have no clue about jacks, if you havent already figured out.

Its the Brains of the Jack, It allows the Pump Piston to pull oil from the Resevoir and transfers into the Cylinder by using springs/balls and Seats, All of which is behind that plug.

ok so basically what your saying is dont touch that screw? how do i know if it needs a rebuild? will it still work? it does take quite a few pumps to get any decent lift. to replace the fluid do i just drain out of the resevoir hole n fill in the same hole?

If you intend on changing the oil only (Without dismantling), i would use the Fill Hole to drain. Of course you will have to manipulate the jack on its head to get oil to flow. The slow lift, Could be atributed to Low/No oil/Pump Piston Seal is Worn and not pulling or pushing oil and or the Ram cup is Compromised. Its impossible to Diagnose over the internet but that will get you started.

Ok, great. i appreciate the help. I think ill try to drain and fill with oil and see if this helps the lift. Do i just fill it with oil till it is level with the drain hole?

Hydraulic Jack oil can be found at any Auto parts store and even Walmart.
