O.K. now it's time to start figuring out what I am going to do for a sound system in the garage. I have wires run to a cabinet in the kitchen area and need to know what to get. First off, my budget is about $1000.00 and I need a complete system to play the radio, cd's and stuff off the dish. Most of the time it will be only me out there listening to the radio, but a big reason for the new build is to have parties, so sometimes I will want something that cranks the sound pretty good. The size of that area of the garage is 30X40X14. What should I buy? Thanks.....Mark

Wow! That's a big budget. I've never bought anything new before for the garage. All my stuff is hand me down. The only money I have in mine is for some cables, wire.

I have a Sony surround system, 3 subs, another Pioneer receiver hooked up to some cheap DJ style speakers 15" woofers.

When watching TV I only use the surround system. When listening to music I fire up both systems. Speakers spread throughout....

I have it hooked up to a computer to stream internet radio or play mp3's, and also hooked to the satellite.

The cheap DJ speakers are not great, but they fill the space with sound. The higher quality satellite speakers give good highs, so you really don't notice the lower quality DJ speakers. My 3 subs (one 12, 2 - 8's) are old car stereo with a car stereo amp running them.

Not sure where I would start if I were to buy stuff. I've just put it all together with whatever has been free from family and friends.

If I get some time I'll post some pics if you want....

cheapest and easiest way is to just go to best buy, hh gregg, or whatever you have near you and listen to some of the pre built surround sound systems they have there. Just take your time untill you find something with the sound quality you are looking for.

I was thinking big sound system in the garage.....

Then we put the IPod along with the docking station on my work bench....

It is more than good enogh.....no CD's to get in the way....picks up am/fm just fine.....plenty of space for all our fav tunes....

And it has a clock to tell me what time it is.....

Problem solved....

When I moved into my new place I found an old Midi Hifi system stored under a 'shelf' alongside the fireplace. It all works OK so that will be going in the garage when it's built.
